Smoke and crash.

While I was flying my k70c today I noticed smoke coming from the body of the quad. I landed it but one one of the props would not stop turning- even when I turned the quad off. When I opened the quad I noticed this burnt spot on the board. Can anyone tell me what happened? BTW I removed the motor lead before taking the photo.

Unfortunately, neither the picture nor your description was very helpful in determining what happened. If a motor was still turning even after powering off the quad, I suspect that the ESC attached to that motor has shorted out and is allowing power to the motor. A burn spot on the board indicates a current surge somewhere that fried one or more components. I suspect that you will have to replace the board at a minimum.

Is this the first time you flew this aircraft?

I just watched a review video of this aircraft on YouTube:

the reviewer mentioned the battery - a 2S lipo; did you use a 3S? If so, that may have been the cause of your problem....

Hi mate that is a FET thats burn out a bigger photo would help also the under side , also what boards does the quad have if its a PDB it may be fixable George is the best guy to chat to on this as he is an electronics pro

Thank you for replying. I had flown this quad daily for about a week, I had noticed that the yaw turning right was about 3x the speed of turning left. Other than that there was no problems before this. It was the oem 2s battery.
After researching more I found that this seems to be fairly common with this quad. (Some right out of the box). All have the same blue board. Whatever that small black box is (FET) it shorts out and allows the motor to run full throttle any time the battery is connected. The only remedy I have seen discussed is replacing the board with a red aftermarket board (a clone of the syma X8HG board). Unfortunately I have never worked on a board....or soldered anything....so I'm likely to screw it up.
Just one more question... if I replace the board, what is the likelihood that it will not bind with the transmitter? Sorry if that is a stupid question but I am completely new at this hobby.

Hi go on you tube and look up the syma bind videos , but what you need to think about now is if this is a normal problem on these is it worth fixing ?
Or are you better off getting a hobby grade quad ?
soldering a small board can be hard your hands will need to be very steady as your track the lines of the board if you run solder off the connect point

The new boards seem to be better than the old boards about shorting out...I ordered a new one today. Trust me I would love to buy a hobby grade quad, but I recently lost my job and can't afford one...maybe someday.
I'll let you guys know how the board install works out.

The best thing I ever did was go to Lenscrafters and buy a $5 pair of 2X magnified reading glasses. Really simplifies working on smaller electronics.

Ok....got the new board. I think everything is is soldered right. Props are turning correct direction; however when taking off the quad just flips forward. Any thoughts?

Yes correct props. It's flipping forward and in the direction of the motor that previously always turned. I'm thinking that when the old board burnt out it may have damaged that motor. Would that make sense?
