radio is paired and blades rotate but no lift

I picked up a X5C at Goodwill. I get it to pair up and all the blades will rotate when you push up on the left joystick for about 15 seconds then they stop. Light flash normal but no more rotation. any ideas? maybe I need to replace the battery in the drone? Thanks
 
Check out the battery voltage before and after charging and after trying to run and can know if that's the issue. The battery should charge up to 4.2V for each cell (usually 1 or 2 cell for small quads like this), when discharged it will be around 3.3V per cell (under 3.0V is bad for the battery), check the voltage using a voltmeter or multimeter in DC voltage mode.
 
ok thanks I will do that!....The battery that is in it is not flat...its more like a bulge. doesnt look right to me but I am not familiar with these yet so I wasnt sure on the battery shape.
 
Yah bulging is a sign of over worn or damaged cell, they all bulge a little with use but will balloon when lots of gas has built up in them usually not a good sign for the cell health but good chance that's what needs to be replaced. Other thing to be sure of is prop direction but assuming it came assembled that's probably fine.
 
You got this at Goodwill? A lot of people donate things to Goodwill that DON'T work right anymore or don't work at all. You have one "tired" old battery too. Sounds like the former. Try getting a new battery for it. Research the model online. If, when you get the new battery, it still acts up, then you bought someone else's problem that they gave to Goodwill!
