Yah have to say I'm pretty skeptical per usual... I worked at a Sharper Image store where we sold the "Ionic Breeze" fans that used ion wind to blow the air around instead of traditional fan blades but as a stock boy I got a 70% discount on Sharper Image items including that one, but they were garbage, I think we got back about 50-80% of those as returns because they barely worked. I just did some searching on ionic propulsion too and looks like it get some pretty bad efficiency in terms of power to thrust conversion and given our quads already don't get the lift benefit from a wing I'm going to put this into the not likely to come to fruition category. From what I've read/heard/seen ionic propulsion is mostly useful for things like satellites where you can keep them thrusting at a low rate for a very long period of time and where you might capture the energy needed to create the propulsion with solar panels over the course of a flight relatively close to the sun instead of having to carry all the fuel up to space.
