Not saying he's an idiot for crashing, because we all do that, but since the news story indicates they are still trying to identify the owner, I can only assume that he fled the scene.

I guess the LiPo battery caught fire on impact???

I think we need a volunteer with maybe a .44 to sacrifice a battery by shooting it and see if it catches fire.....................

I hear of Lipos catching fire from improper charging and such. And they say not to drop or hit them.......has anyone actually had a battery catch on fire from impact???

I built this Laser gun from PVC fittings and a 2000-volt Helium-Neon laser tube powered by a 12-volt battery and a voltage multiplier/rectifier. It has an arming switch and a trigger.

It produces an intense, narrow red beam, and when aimed at a parked car's tail lights a block away, the whole car erupts in a display of brilliant red light.

It's illegal to use, so I don't use it anymore.

From my perspective, it's a lot to do with the availability of education in relation to the ease of availability.

I was fortunate that I happened across an active RC pilot that began educating me on the needs to know and do to get into this hobby, but that was by sheer chance that I came across him. Most people, I'd wager, see what they want, get it, throw out the instructions (that does not educate them much anyway) and off they go.

Add to that, common sense isn't so common.

I would assume so. I did see a couple LiPo fires on YouTube - one guy hitting a phone with a hammer and another with an RC plane that crashed. The RC plane made more smoke than fire, but probably enough to spark a fire in the right conditions.

Growing up, the two most memorable sayings from my dad were, "common sense ain't so common" and "pay yourself first".
Unfortunately for my bank account, I didn't pay attention to the second one until I was almost 40.
