Being able to roughly plan out a flight sequence instead of being purely reactionary or impulsive. The balls of steel is definitely high on the list. Staying calm and metered in all your moves seems to be a huge difference between noobs and pro videos. It makes all the sequences seem planned in advance. I personally dont like all the quick jerky flips and spins. Image is just a big blur and im supposed to be impressed that they hit a bunch of button sequences like in street fighter from the 90s and didnt crash. Fast tricks when required but everything else should be smooth and slow enough to understand what youre seeing.

Not being afraid to crash. If you ain't crashing, you ain't learning.
That's why I like my modified JJRC H31, it's a cheap hard to kill drone great for crashing and training.

Try flying away from areas with drone eating trees. I have yet to find a place other than the Sahara Dessert and Grand Canyon. Being a professional drone pilot, I can safely fly my drone anywhere as long as those damned drone eating trees are not looking.

The patience of Job, especially if you fly in a forest full of trees. Duh, what else would you find in a forest, other than trees? Hawks, Eagles, Owls all with a marked propensity towards taking down drones flying in their territory. Another good name is "Rocketboy". Unfortunately, that one was given out by a president of some country.

LoL..that 's why i don't mind crashing my cheap toy drone hundred time, as a newbie who like to learn at the first place, i cannot imagine if i crash thousand value of droneNot being afraid to crash. If you ain't crashing, you ain't learning.

Someone who flies where trees and bushes are not in the way. The moon would be a good example of such a location. The Gobi Dessert is another good location.

Someone who has good depth perception or, more commonly, is aware that they do not have it. When your quad is out there a distance and there are trees about, it's very easy to misjudge how far your quad is from danger and BOOM. The solution to that is to develop good depth perception.
And why I have a fleet of Syma X5's or a variation of. You can't buy parts easier or cheaper than Syma X5 parts! AND you can crash land them from any height and not break them!
Yes, to answer the original question........ To learn the skills you need as a good drone pilot, may require you push your limits and that will include a LOT of crashing. Crashing into everything and anything you can imagine. Some things you can't imagine crashing into. And you will crash many many more times than you can ever imagine.
The great salt flats in the USA are pretty good too!
