[Australia] Building a quadcopter, looking for help/advice.

Hello all!

I'm a noob to the makerspace as a whole (outside of 1 strongly-scaffolded uni assignment, I've never built a mechatronic thing). In spite of this, I've got it through my head that I'd like to build a quadcopter, and what's more, I'd like to implement my own flight control loop.

However, having never assembled an embedded system from scratch, let alone a drone, I have no experience upon which to draw. Enter you, the benevolent reader.

For context, my goal is to implement a basic flight controller loop (think PID stabilisation, nothing fancy). I'm not using this drone for FPV (yet), assuming it's too expensive/involved; I just need a frame which can fly.

Also, I'm based out of Queensland (Australia), so I'd really prefer to source all parts locally. Unless there's an incredible deal to be had, I'd also rather avoid eBay/Chinese wholesalers, as I've twiddled my thumbs plenty enough at this point, and unless there's exceptional savings to be had, I don't need a shipping-induced hiatus to axe my productivity.

Looking at other projects of a similarish scope (shoutouts to JoopBrokking, Ryan Boland, Ben Heck from Element14, and GreatScott), as well as other forums such as the r/Multicopter wiki, I've collated a tentative parts list:
  • Flight Controller- IMU: MPU-6050 6DOF sensor (AusElectronics)
  • Flight Controller- Mainboard: Arduino Mega knockoff (AusElectronics)
  • Flight Controller- Radio Receiver: RadioMaster R81, 8CH & FrSky D8 compatible (PhaserFPV)
  • Battery: Infinity Graphene Tech 1500mAh, 4s, 110C, 14.8V (FPVFaster)
  • ESCs (x4): Aikon SEFM 20A BLHeli_S, rated 2-4s (PhaserFPV)
  • Motors (x4): 4000Kv, 1404 (FPVFaster)
  • Rotors (x4 incl.): GEMFAN Hurricane 4023-3 (FPVFaster)
  • Frame: TBS Source One V5 (RisingSunFPV)
  • Radio Controller: RadioMaster Zorro (NextFPV)
I really do apologize if these selections are terrible, I just don't know what to look for. And if a A$300 (US$195) spending cap is a fairytale, please wake me from dreamland (yes, I know my parts list is already past that, but I'm also not a seasoned tinkerer, so perhaps there are deals/retailers I'm not aware of which do strike such a value bargain).

The process of tinkering is a big reason I'm even doing this, but bear in mind this is a side-project in addition to volunteer work and a full-time uni load, so if there's a reasonable corner to be cut, let me know. As they say, a bird in hand beats two in the bush!

And finally, thanks in advance for any advice! I'm really excited to get this project off the ground, hehe.

Hi sorry about the rubbish answer which had nothing to do with quads ,most of us use ecal.com this you can put in all the info of your build and this will tell you if it will work or if changes need to be made
