APM mini 3.1 and compass question

Hello,

It it possible to use the APM Mini 3.1 without a compass ?

If i used an external sensor, the GY80 , with a compass chip(HMC5883l) and connect it to the APM Mini 3.1 will it work ?

I don't know of any controllers that will not work without a compass. I have never flown the mini 3.1, but I would think that it would fly without one.

Its fairly easy to find compasses on ebay.
