Can you upload one so we can see what you're getting?

    how are holy stone quads?

I've got the Holy Stone 181c. Yes, I believe I read on here where @Jackson said they are the same as Syma, but not sure on the model comparison. So far I like mine. Great little quad to learn on so far, at least when the wind is below 5-10mph. It's great indoors too as long as keep the speed on...

    Lookout!

That's great news, Ten. Glad to hear that. I felt a little bad since I asked for the train video. And yes, that is great advice. I've been trying to get my son to learn that, but he "knows everything" so instead he keeps it at full throttle and crashes it into trees and onto the neighbor's roof.

Yes. The "micro chip" can be thought of as a little hard drive. It doesn't really care what is stored on it. The only things you really care about with them are speed (faster for video is better) and size (64GB can store twice as much as 32GB). The 4k you see on them is just an easy way for...

Getting your quad out of tall trees the easy way

This is an awesome idea, Doc! Thanks for sharing it.

    Help needed

Hey Matt, Welcome to the forum. I spent a couple minutes clicking around and here's my feedback. While it looks very nice, it looks like a thousand other template-based websites. It also feels a little slow to load and navigate. The biggest problem is that in the short time I spent on your...

First build... (Victory rant :D )

I don't know anything about carbon fiber props, but I do know that 10db doesn't sound like much, but each +10db results in a perceived doubling of the sound volume and correspondingly -10db results in a perceived halving of the volume. So -5db should be noticeably less.

Betaflight: Just noticed I wasn't tuning my throttle

I love Jamesnater's work too - just followed last night and watched a few of his vids. The guy that inspired me to look into FPV was Mr. Steele. Check this one out:

You should be able to check and set the video resolution in the camera settings. My video work was for my daughter's college recruiting efforts and 720p worked just fine. It also takes up less space which means faster to copy, faster to process, faster to upload. Many people will say you need...

    Jerky Video Scene Transition

Yeah, if you are worried about 2.4 GB of drive space, I think you should be looking for a bigger hard drive, clearing off unneeded stuff off your computer, shooting in a lower resolution, or some combination of those things. Video takes up space when you copy from the card, more space when you...

Aww, that sucks, Tentoes, sorry to hear about losing your quad.

Thanks, that snowplow and the waterfall/river combo was pretty cool. I've never had a desire to mess with model trains, but I absolutely love watching them and appreciating the detail builders put into their layouts. My wife's dad is into trains with a big layout on his second floor. Next time...

    HAM Radio License for FPV

For those so inclined, last night I found this site that provides a free study guide for all three levels. I read through the Technician level PDF in about an hour and was able to pass a practice test. To be fair though, I did study electronics 30+ years ago, and while I remember very little...

    HAM Radio License for FPV

Hey folks, While reading up on FPV and building drones, I've come across several YT videos where the pilot mentioned getting a HAM radio license because he got into FPV racing. I think one of them was Mr. Steele, but I could be wrong. I also get a few blog articles when I google for it. I've...

    Lookout!

Welcome to the forum. Is part of your backyard a train setup? It looked like it in the videos. I'd love to see more of your train setup the next time you do video.

Another newbie but with a twist

One more thought. Beyond the quad and radio, my most useful piece of equipment so far has been an extendable pole to help retrieve the quad from trees.

I really like this in conjunction with your advice on a using a nicer radio to control all of my quads, rather than having a bunch of "left-over" controllers that only work with one specific quad. On top of the fact of getting really used to one radio instead of a bunch of them. Thanks for this!

Another newbie but with a twist

Not stupid at all, but if it's not clear from Steve's explanation - you download a quad simulator program to your computer (think flight simulator type game). Then plug your radio (controller) into your computer. Then you can practice flying without actually using your quad. Maybe I can help...

Thanks Doc and Moz for that info on radios. I'll definitely look into those for when I'm reading to get one. Very helpful.
