Illegal to Fly Over My Neighbor's Back Yard?

EXCEPT, that the FAA limits drones to a maximum altitude of 400 feet. If the courts recognize a 500 foot maximum height to a property owner's claim to airspace above their property, then a drone pilot is trespassing in overflights within that 500 foot altitude. In effect, you cannot legally...

Illegal to Fly Over My Neighbor's Back Yard?

Any violation of a criminal statute by any means, can result in a LEGAL criminal prosecution. Case in point. A commercial airline pilot reports for duty intoxicated. He is clearly in violation of applicable FAA regulations that prohibit that. A patrol officer following him as he drove to the...

Illegal to Fly Over My Neighbor's Back Yard?

Unfortunately, that is an erroneous assumption (I was in the Air Force, and among other places, stationed at Castle AFB near Merced). Although an Air Force base is federal property, Air Force Regulations forbid both military personnel as well as civilians on base property, from violating any...

Illegal to Fly Over My Neighbor's Back Yard?

As a retired police officer (in Pennsylvania), I'm going to weigh in on this. Although the federal government has general jurisdiction, states do have a Constitutional authority to inact statutes that must comply at least with minimal statutory requirements under federal law. An example being...

I can pick that up at nearby auto parts stores.

I've seen some recommendations to use #14 AWG stranded wire for the battery leads, and #16 or #18 AWG stranded wire for the motors and ESCs. The #14 gauge wire seems reasonable for the battery, but the #16 or 18 gauge seems a bit heavy for other wiring. Thoughts?

FPV to mobile phone, (no drone)

Here's something even more interesting. Up until now, FLIR (Forward Looking InfraRed) cameras were previously the provence of military aircraft and law enforcement helicopters. Now they are reduced to handheld devices available even in home improvement stores. Imagine a quad equiped with this...

I have a Naze32 FCB and matching PDB that I bought. I keep seeing recommendations for using Beta Flight FCB's and PDB's, but the only ones that I find on eBay are for Naze32 and even the drone magazines are still featuring them rather than Beta Flight. Who has the Beta Flight versions, and what...

    Continuing on my first build.

I've been working on my first build in my spare time, began wondering. Is a power distribution board an absolute necessity, or can I get by with just the flight control board? I want to not only reduce weight, but simplify the wiring. I'm also trying to remove any unnecessary component, in order...

I'm looking at the Flysky I6 transmitter/receiver combinations available on eBay. The prices are all in a tight range of each other. Has anybody used them? If so, how well do they perform? What is the range? How easy are they to program and calibrate? Are there certain motors or ESC's that work...

    Painting RTF quads.

Doing some modifications that I want to complete, before applying the paint. By the way. I saw some brushed motor ESC's listed on eBay. Are thry pracyical on a quad? I have a JJRC H25G, which uses the same motors as the Syma X8. Since I'm building a brushless motored quad, it makes sense to me...

Do the pins have to be soldered to the boards, or are they press fits that will remain in place? Some of them are in rows of three, and look impossible to get to the middle row to solder. Plus I'm leery of causing heat-related damage to the boards while soldering.

    Continuing on my first build.

My carbon-fiber twin-blade props have arrived. Now my next task is to locate a supplier of the wiring jacks that connect to the pins on a receiver, FCB, and PDB. Preferably with short lengths of color-coded wires attached to them to make soldering easier. Does Gear Best or Bang Good carry them?

    Continuing on my first build.

Still receiving components. Now that I have a PDB, and FCB, are there pre-assembled wiring with jacks that I can connect to the fittings that I have to solder to the boards, or do I have to solder wires directly to the fittings themselves as is the practice on toy grade FCB's? Also. As the...

    illegal footage from Canada

I hope all of those bitching and complaining about the 400 feet (121.92 meters) "ceiling" in the US take note of the fact that there are a lot more restrictions in place outside the US. Compared to 20 meters (65 feet, 7.402 inches), 400 feet is stratospheric. And the "line of sight" distance...

    illegal footage from Canada

What's illegal anout this footage? There's nothing obviously restricted, such as airport airspace, military bases, utility plants, government offices, etc. Not even close to any private residences, stadiums, or anything else that would be an obvious concern.
