Hey guys, serious newb here. My friend did me a "favor" and gave me his old rig, a 450 quad copter. He has two or three others so I have a feeling it was sort of a clearance sale due to his wife. LOL!

I'm just learning things and haven't even gotten out to fly yet. I needed to order batteries and a charger when he gave it to me Saturday and haven't received them yet. I'm mostly poking around to learn and make some connections.

I live a little south of San Jose, CA, been around here for years. I've always been interested in getting a better view from above things than Google Maps can show me and I think this will make it fun. I also race dirt bikes and have thought about taking some video at various courses after I get better. We'll see how long that takes though.

Looking forward to learning from you guys and going back to my friend with more knowledge to surprise him.

Hey everyone, I'm 58 and front Anniston Alabama. I got into this hobby almost a year ago. Started out on 4 channel heli and tried 6 channel and found just how hard it is to fly plus the expense of fixing crashed helis too! Got a 350 qx2 and love it. Smart mode let's anyone fly! I'll try to help anyone I can....love this forum:)

Welcome to the forum Technut , so you gave up on the Helis then ,its an expensive learning curve on a CP heli great fun once its mastered , It funny when I am out flying the Cobra I always get the some questions, how much did that toy cost? its not a toy if it was it would be easy to fly
If I take £1500 to the shop and get one will I be able to fly it like you ? Yes in about 1 year or more and loads of crashes and cash ,How high will it go ?, How fast does it go?
So I got my wife trained up, now she answers while I fly , then I answer while she Flies

TY Holtneil., I've had alot of fun with the qx. I built a S500 and am working out the bugs. Just love to build and work problems out. Also I'm a Harley-Davidson Master tech.

Hi everyone! My name is Bernardo, I am italian, but I live in Warsaw, Poland. I just got a quadcopter for my 30th birthday from my dad and mom (yep... still their little kid! :D ) and I am getting quite involved in the thing. I think is a quite basic model (a rayline r806) but is perfect for learning I guess and I am having a lot of fun with it!

Today I had my first real outdoor fly, and it was great! Only problem, I had a small crash. Nothing too serious, but I noticed that one of the propellers is slightly scratched, so I think it had a little shock. The propeller itself looks ok, but while I spin the propeller there is a small section of the circle that is pretty hard. I opened up the quadcopter and all the gears looks all right. The motor itself turn smoothly, but as soon as I hook it up again with the propeller gear it is hard again.

The copter fly pretty well even like this, but I was wondering if I can do something about it.

I don't even now if this is the right section to ask this, please let me know if I have to move the questions somewhere else! :)

Hi Bernardo welcome to the forum it sounds like the shaft is bent, remove all the props then spin the motor on the damaged side and make sure the shaft is ok ,if it is then spin the prop shaft it may be bent is you can remove it roll it on a glass top( must be a mirror or glass) and this will show if its bent, if it is replace it with a new one as it will damage the motor in the end

Thank you holtneil! Do you know some good online shop to buy that kind of stuff? I found some, but the prices of hobbyking are unbeatable, even with the super high shipping cost I have, due to the fact the I live in europe. However, I don't think I saw that kind of gear even in the hobby king website. On the official rayline website I can buy the hole motor-gear-propeller set, but it costs 16 euros each...

Hi on Hobby king use the EU ware house , they do some toy grade but not loads so you may have to look at e bay , and try and upgrade to a hobby grade quad as soon as you can are easier to get parts for or upgrade

Ok. Yes I was thinking about upgrading, but I got this just a week ago, so I wanted to learn a bit and be sure that my involvment last before spending some more money! However I think I will have some question on a new quad in the proper section soon! :D I will have a look on ebay for the spare parts! Thanks again for your help! :)

Yesterday I think I found some gear which is suitable for my copter. However, when I opened to double check, I realize that probably I wouldn't be able to extract the gear from the plastic piece that keeps it together with the motor, so buying the new gear could not help. I watched how the gear was slightly bent and tried to fix it gently with some pliers... looks like it worked! Now the propeller spins very smoothly! :)

Hey everyone - I'm a Chicago based architectural photographer and new to quads. I started with a few Cheerson CX10, and a JJRC H8C, before now ordering a Hubsan h107d pro for FPV fun, and diving into learning AP with a Yuneec Q500+ (waiting for delivery - I'm so impatient).

I'll eventually build out an FPV racer, but for now I think I'm set. Glad to find this forum and hope to learn more.

As far as the quad goes it is built very nice, but i had some trouble with a cold solder joint in the GPS receiver which resulted in a flyaway and crash, 45 min later and 1/2 mile away i was able to locate my quad, which was damaged pretty bad, after several emails with Align USA said that they would repair the quad, on the second quad, ( I have 2 Align m480l's) there was an issue with the APS-M controller, but Align USA replace both the APS-M and GPS receiver on that quad

Thats not good they are not cheap, there helis were a bit bad when they first came out ,but now are one of the best , so thing may get better
