which battery and tx rx to buy?

hello everyone, currently im waiting on my first quadcopter to come in the mail. i went with a pretty common beginner build.. 450 flamewheel clone, 1000kv motors, 30a simonk esc's, 10x4.5" props, hobbyking 2.1 lcd flight control. im unsure how to purchase a battery for my quad. id like to know how to figure flight times and how much power i need. also, i havent heard of anyone using 2 batteries.. is this possible? i mean something that actually switches to the backup power supply when the primary is empty.
also.. i need to get a tx rx system. im thinking about 2 separate 4 channel so my son can control the camera function when we grow into that but wouldnt he be in control of the flight modes with the 5th and 6th channels? is this smart?

Hi mate ,welcome to the forum , use ecalc to work out flight times , my boy has this set up he runs a 2200mah battery and is getting over 10 mins flight time , as for 2 batteries yes can be done but all that extra weight , it will wallow in its own weight and will fly like its a big bus not a quad ,just go up on mah like a 4000mah , when you go with the camera you need the extra battery power for flight and gimbal , as for camera yes you can have it on a 2 channel receiver that will just work the gimbal
As for the main transmitter i would go for a 6 channel transmitter is good to have the spare channels for lights landing gear etc
I see that your going for the kk2.1 get the flash tool and flash it with steveis 1.18s1 pro its much better than the Hobby king firmware its not hard to do and it will make it a very stable camera platform

great.. i guess that would be smarter to go with a 6 and 4 channel pair of tx rx.. as i do plan to have some sort of camera movement.. but not to get ahead of myself.. whats this 1.18s1 flash? my board doesnt come with a flash tool? i thought it had a mini usb like a cellphone plug.. and what does this do for my quad that the board wont do as is? please help.. sorry to newb out on ya..
also.. anyone have any suggestions for a txrx thats cheap? i still want quality and the loooongest range possible.

Hi mate ok the KK 2.1.5 comes with hobby king firmware ,there has been crashes reported due to firmware ,so what we do is buy the flash tool its not a lot to pay out , then we load multirotor flash software on your PC , then we can flash the kk with different firmware , then one to go for is Steveis 1.18s1 pro , this will make the quad very stable in flight and will help when you want to use it as a camera platform .
Now as for transmitter is really personal taste ,i use a spektrum DX9 £300 , there are some second hand dx6i out there but if you dont mind the colour the orange transmitter is a great clone i will give you some links to look at but what i will say is the better the transmitter the better the gimbals are and the nicer it flys the model
