Where to START !!! ?????

Well...It IS as I suspected...FPV.....especially Virtual Reality technology is a very fast moving area !!! And really difficult for a person to understand....if they have NOT done some homework !!!!!!!!!!!! Which I had NOT !!!

I THINK.....I know what I want.....It seems as the latest development is the Oculus Rift Developers Kit2....for a 110 Degree FOV....WITH 1080 resolution....See here.... https://www.oculusvr.com/order/ And that is JUST the start !!!

I think.....from what I have been able to understand....the MOST....I mean MOST 3D experience is attainable with something called the " Transporter3D"....from www.emrlabs.ca

I am still studying up on ALL this !!! and there is ALOT to learn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOooooo....please cut me a lot of slack....if my understanding is all screwed up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

emrlabs also sells a camera set....as in Stereo....as in two (2) cameras....attached to one board. Each camera sends a separate signal....via an analog RX/TX set up.....yes....you need two (2) TX....and two (2) RX !!! See their website !!! VERY nice people !!! Very willing to teach !!!

The " Transporter3D " ....which is on the ground...is a hardware box....and is dedicated to signal processing. This unit gets BOTH signals.....and with almost ZERO " Latency" time....stitches the signals together..... ????? The result is STUNNING !!!......very 3D.....WOW...very 3D !!!!

Couple this with the new Oculus gear....( NOT OUT YET...but due in July 2014).....and I think....THIS IS DA SCHIZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE FUTURE !!!

I mean....I just guess it is up to the individual !!! If one wants the latest and greatest....and really obtain VR !!!....One must open their REAL WALLET !!
...I dunno ???????????????????

Another choice I am considereding....are the Cinimizer OLED goggles !!!!!!!!

The new Zeiss goggles from www.cinemizer.com are also HD.....and they have a totally beautiful display....FOV is at 30 degree....but....again....WOW....what a great display !!!!!!! And THIS option is available NOW !!! The screens are OLED....and are also stunning and have a very crisp display !!!!!....There are two screen in the goggles. I REALLY like these too !!!!!!

I really have 10X questions more than I did before !!! I REALLY dunno !!! I estimate the total cost for the Oculus+EMR set-up....$1750.00~$ 2000.00 ???...... and the Zeiss system...$1200.00~$ 1300.00....But both are mind blowing !!!

I hope some will find this review helpful. I am VERY lucky to live SOooo close to the Toledo Show......My wallet will NOT be so lucky !!!!

Good luck and safe flying !!!

Some additional thoughts !!!! I must continue to match my wants with my wallet....against the backdrop of how I want to do my flying.....AND taking into consideration the wise words of our MOD...." Keep the expensive hardware ON THE GROUND....especially when starting out !! "
OK.....What does this all mean ????? Well....Since I want to do a lot of treetop type flying......NOT 2000 ft up in the air!!!
.....I think I will START with the new Oculus googles, RX and TX...and a good HD camera !!!
While the 3D stuff is intense....for this summer....I will just start this way !!! And Grow !!! Everything I read sez..." Keep it simple to start "
Ok...OK.....I will.......And I am reading and trying to understand it all !!! There is a huge amount if info....and even MORE opinions !!! See here =====> http://www.rcgroups.com/fpv-talk-469/page3.html
Another world !!!!!
Will Keep you posted !!!

New to Quadcopters !! Never flown one. Not ready to build.....maybe someday !! Like Spywhite and NAZA combo

I have only flown Electric Old Timer planes....slow and gracefull !!

The new generation of 5.8 Gz HD electronics are amazing, I want to try a FPV set up.

I am thinking the TX 5808 camera/transmitter unit coupled to the Walkera UFO 400S quad.
SOOOO many questions !!!

I am luck to live near Toledo.....so I went to the big show !! I saw the unit from Rotor Concepts...and started my search. Seems as though this unit has major issues with the ESC units !! so...I started to do my homework and beguin the education process !!

Wow....A huge selection...and a huge price range !!! I have a budget of $500 to $ 750 USD.....so...the 400S seemed to be the a good entry point.....not to big...not too small ( like the Walkera Ladybug !!)

So....If I go with the 400S.....WHICH transmitter. I would like to have telemetry.....like GPS....and Battery status/motor temp....and altitude...So.....I think I understand I need the Walkera 8S for these options ?????? Correct ???? or the 7E ???? Confusing....need to study more !!!

Is Walkera good quality ???? I did not know that I was going down this path when at the show !!! Too bad......It is likely the 400S was there !!!

Anyone fly the 400S ??? I imagine.....someday....I will try some 3D things....someday !!

Suggestions for a quadcopter with a very stable platform.... I have seen some pro packages with gymbal camera mounts....really high end......not in my budget range !!! but very nice !!

Anyone use ther TX 5808 ???? Real range ??? 100 meters ??? CAn the signal be boosted with an amplifier???? they have a unit for the 5.8 Gz band.... If boosted....range ???

I know....lotsa questions !!! Thought this form MAY be a good place to start !!!

Like the name..." I in da Sky " ????? Thanx for reading !!!

Something has happened ....I cannot reply to the above post.....not in the normal fashion !!!
And why is the above post highlighted ????? What gives ????

I have a 350 qx3 blade is there any one that can help trouble shoot a problem i am having
this thing I just few yesterday and and now it is acting up again. I do the calibration. And light goes green then I do the accelerometer calibration. And the red light goes on ànd blink's . I retry it again and nothing but red light comes on and I can not do any thing with it after that.
Thanks vargas

Hello Boys, I'm BACK .png

Hello Boys....I'M BACK !!!!!! ( Independence Day quote....) Time to get this ship up with a real set of " Seeing Balls ".....aka "HeadPlay" googles......Have done some standard flying with no FPV....finally....perhaps....will be the " I in da Sky " !!! stay tuned....

Price is not the driver....although...price is a consideration. Picture resolution, FOV are the deal....along with latency !!! It really looks like the Headplay goggles have it ALL....and for $ 250.00 a pop....THAT is a very reasonable price....with the receiver built in !!! The OLED Zeiss are $ 750 !! No receiver...They have a great picture....small FOV though....and 3X the cost !!! The Oculus Rift ??? Who knows ??? Developer unit was $ 350.00 and no receiver. Consumer version due out...this fall ??

SOOOoooo, what I am saying is that.....the Headplay googles really do seem to be a game changer !!! The 5.8GHz 32CH A/V 600mW Transmitter (TS832) from getfpv @ $ 66.00 and the runcamHD @ $ 50.00......................... SOOoooo $ 360.00 total for an amazing FPV set-up....latest and greatest !!!

Well.....seems to good to be true !!! Maybe it is ???? Perhaps.....I am missing something !!!! BUT....perhaps technology has grown...exponentially !!
.....and....we benefit !!!

I suppose the above setup may have a limited range ????? I would be perfectly happy with 2 klick's !!!!!! Hello.....there must be a lot of experience out there regarding FPV ???? Have I gone " Off the rail " concerning my above speculations ????? Will these components work together ????

Here are some links:

For the goggles/transmitter:
http://www.getfpv.com/

For the camera:
http://shop.runcam.com/runcam-hd/

I am surly a real noob with all this !!!!! Opinions ????? !!!!! THANX !!!!!....and ....remember........

The Rift may have more lag, as it is designed with processing power needed for some small game related task. To have near 0 latency you need a dedicated FPV camera (so no Gopro, Mobious, or Runcam). I am buying the runcam for a recorder, but the latency is unbearable for FPV.

Take a look at this if you want a LRS for video.

This will take more study !! Much more study !!!! Trying to understand the issue of Latency !!! The first video really shows what it is !!! BUT....What dedicated camera to use to get 0 latency ???? Do I need the DJI Lightbridge ??? $ 1600 Yikes Dragonlink Tx/Rx look to be excellent.... Flying up in the clouds would sure be a hoot !!!
Maybe.......more $$$$$ gets professional results !!!

Then again....per the Dragonlink site......if one wanted a really good downlink...realtime....close to zero latency....HD transmission.....What are the options ???? Tx/Rx/camera ?????
Do I read this correctly ????? According to Dragonlink....maybe the....Complete Video System 1.2 GHZ Lawmate 1000 mW ( US VERSION ) $ 350 for the system and camera ??? That is within budget !!!!!

There is SOOO much to learn !! but....that is the fun of it !!! Thanx !!!

Latency comes from processing the video. If you get one similar to the budget one I showed, or one off from the runcam website. The cheap ones like this have low latency, but cannot record.

If you get a LRS for video, you will want one for your controls of the quadcopter. If you have a modular Tx, you can just buy a 433ghz module.

Still studying.....so I can ask the right questions !!! SO....Dragonlink V2 or Connex ??? for the HD video downlink ...with zero latency ??? mmmm....BIG $$ difference !!! SOOoooo.....I want what the Connex does....but $ 1600 is kinda steep !!! But...maybe THAT is what one must spend to get what the Connex offers !!! ???
I am still uneducated....and likely asking....silly questions !!!!! Will study more !! Thanx !!! FYI...My radio set up is FrSky Taranis & X8R Combo.

Well....NOT a big response !!.........I have had the pleasure of talking with Eric at VooDooQuads !!! He took a great deal of time to teach me !!!
The bottom line ....if I got it right ??? The HD downlink is now available in the market ( Connex HD)......but to start out....I will go much, much more modest !!!@
A 1.2 gHz 800mW transmitter, A GoPro 3 Silver....to record and downlink to my ground station !!

I'm gonna take a flyer on the Headplay goggles. They seem perfect....although....the look very goofy... they are very light weight and comfortable !!!
While this set-up will not serve up HD 1080 graphics to the goggles....it will get me started.....and that is a goal also. Getting started to find out if I really like this whole FPV thing !!!!!

Note: Again...If I understand things correctly...Latency is much more a factor at higher speeds. If one is " Ripping it".....then yes.....that time lag caused by video processing will be an issue....an issue which causes disorientation, but...if one fly's at a lower speed.......latency is less important.

Enjoy the ride, enjoy the upgrades as they unfold....one may spend a little more doing it this way.....but....the experience will likely be more educational...and when a Connex HD type system drops down to a more....reasonable price.....well then.....I will be ready !!....and have made sure that FPV is for me !

Will post next when I have the FPV set up and let ya know what I have learned.

If you use the gopro for live output to your ground station, be aware that you are going to have latency. Where as using a board camera you would have almost 0 latency. Like you said, it should be manageable if you are not flying too fast. It still could make a difference, but if you decide later that you need it then you can always look at as an add on. Also take a look at Runcam HD, not as good as a GoPro, but certainly comparable in video quality, and the price is amazing.

Thank you 5775. Your many posts are greatly appreciated. I read them very carefully !! The question boils down to; cost, latency and keeping a record of a most memorable flight.

This ( expensive) hobby, as with any hobby is best when " spouse supported ". A way to encourage this support is to offer up a video of the experience. To come back from the flying field....and say..." Wow...what a view...you shoulda seen it !!! " ....although completely true....is likely not a good thing !!!
And...the more I think about it....I would also like to have a record for future review and sharing with friends !!! So...this then leads to the current thinking that I will include a GoPro on the airframe compliment.

Now... I understand your statement about the latency issue with the GoPro. Although I will not likely be flying thru parking structures, passing by concrete pillars at 60 MPH.....For a relatively new flyer as I am...latency may come into play !! A 3' wide Oak Tree could cause an expensive Quad set up to have a REALLY bad day !!!

SOooo...the cost of board camera's are so inexpensive....that I will likely use both. Thank you for your teaching !!! ANYONE in this hobby surly benifits from the learning curve of others !!!!!!! So....I finally understand why a typical Quadcopter uses BOTH !!! Took me long enough !!!

Haha, if you have never flown with a 0 latency camera you may not nosice the delay unless you see your self or something, but it can make a difference, and even as you said keep you from crashing.

Spouse support is a critical component !!! As you well know !!! We not only must justify a considerable portion of disposable income spent...we must justify the time spent at the flight line !!!

Perhaps the best solution would be if the spouse is also bitten by the quad bug ???? MMMmmmmm ?????? I dunno ???? THAT might be flawed thinking ????

The only other option is the " Quid pro Quo " defense....as in...." OK honey.....Yes....I would luv to go to the cat show " meOOOW !!! Yikes !!! A heavy tariff indeed !!!!
But.....compromise is at the very heart of a shared life !!!

Although one may get the'ole " Deer in the Headlights look "....from time to time.....that is just the way things are....in ANY country on Earth !!! and have been for a long, long time !!!!! hahaha !!
