What kind of motors?

So I've been look at custom quadcopter kits (frames) only.

Is there a rule book about weights (of kit) and what speed motors your going to need?

Can someone give me a break down of the rules?

Also I see all kinds of motors that say everything from
900kv / 270w
1000KV Brushless
1100kv / 252w
980Kv 14Pole

Can someone tell me how to read and understand what all these numbers and specs mean. Thanks!

HI mate ok KV is rpm per 1 volt of power you put in , poles are the magnets , as a rule work out the flight weight of the quad approx then X this by 1 and a half ,then divide this by the number of motors you going to use ,this will tell you how much lift in grams your need from each motor to fly , lots of guys use this ecalc.com , if you put in the frame weight without drive it will add weight for parts as you add items like motors ,battery etc
As for KV the lower the KV the more torque it makes the bigger the prop it will spin , 700 size quads use 400 to 700kv motors 250 racer will use 1800 to 2300kv very high rpm motors
most motor makers will give you spec of the motor spinning different props sizes as amps pulled your need to make sure the ESC can handle the amps needed for that motor prop combo
