I'm new to quadcopters. I recently bought a syma x4 to learn on and it's been a blast. I'm pretty good at making it go where I want to without bumping into much. The problem I have is I just can't seem to make it hover in a fixed position. I see lots of videos where people do this. Is it just me being new to the quads? I've played with the trim buttons on the remote but they don't seem to have any effect.

I tried it outdoors and there were some light breezes and although I was able to fly it around, the wind pushed it all over.

Is there a quad that I can buy for under $150 that can hover in a fixed position outdoors? I'd like to get a phantom with a camera, but it's way to pricey to learn on.

I'd like something easy to fly since my 8 year old is having great fun with it as well, and she's getting pretty good.

Hi mate the toy quads wont do what you want sorry to say , even brushless quads have a hard time in wind , The Phantom is the one of the best I had my wifes Phantom out the other day in strong wind it was at a 45 deg angle trying to stay put , it did a fairly good job really wind was very strong , The DJI Phantom is one of the easiest quads to fly really your 8 year old will love it , once you know how to get all the systems working for you it will fly its self , GPS helps hold it where you left it
AS for the toy ones the steady hover will get better as you train your head and fingers to work without thinking about it
But I would save your money for a Phantom ( phantom 1 is cheap right now as every one want the phantom2 , batteries are cheaper for the phan1)
