From 2015 - hope you are still here and active. I have Audacity which I have been using to convert tape cassettes into audio files I can use in iTunes. Can I trim or crop a video with Audacity?I've been using Corel Video Studio for about six years now. I've been having trouble transferring files from my SD card to my HDD [transfer gets about half way and then craps out with 'File not found' or some such nonsense]. But if I open the video file in Video Studio I can open, edit and add a soundtrack with no problems. Then I save the AVI file as an MP4 for playback. The soundtracks I add like Pink Floyds 'The Gunners Dream' or the Stones 'Paint it Black' make it impossible to post them on YouTube, I have one strike already with them and don't want another. There are plenty of free to use tunes but most sound just like.. well free to use tunes. So I just create them and archive them... the family hasn't really caught the bug as I have and their glazed eyes when I say 'Hey I've got a new one to show ya!' just bums me out. But I'm retired and having fun. Tweaking the soundtracks I use the freeware Audacity to deaden the annoying whine n grind and to trim or adjust the soundtrack and then add the track to the timeline in CVS. Not sure if this helps... hey is that a glaze I'm seeing....
Cheers!

Windows 7Nope. Audacity is only for audio. Or at least it was last time I used it.
What flavor of computer do you use? Windows, Mac, Linux?
I am looking at the Movavi video editor. It's freeware and appears to be relatively basic and easy to use. All I want to do at this point is crop a 2GB video down to size, so I can post it here - it's the original, jerky video. Do you know anything about the Movavi editor?I"m assuming a WIndows environment. One option to try out is VSDC Free Video Editor. It's not at all user-friendly, but there are a ton of YouTube videos for doing just about anything in it, and it's a very capable video editing software. There is a registered version that is quite affordable, but a lot of people just use the free version forever. I forget what additional functionality you get the the paid version, but I know I decided it was worth paying for it when I researched.
Windows still puts out Movie Maker. I will check it out as well as Movavi.I've not used that one, but Windows comes with (or used to) MS Movie Maker which is free. Easy to use and I've used it plenty for just clipping extra stuff at the ends of a video - although another tool is probably better for more than simple stuff. I'm a Mac guy these days, and I used to use the included iMovie for that purpose as well as more advanced operations.
