US Senate Bill Could Eliminate DIY Multirotor Builds

That is the most ignorant thing I have read in a while. I can't even find words to express my thoughts. It is obvious that they do not know how large the self building community is.

Hey, aall American Quadsters, it is time to quit lamenting and WRITE your opposition of this legislation, to your Congressman. The fight is on...

tbh i wouldn't worry too much yet, forbes.com does nothing except spout BS all day, just like fox news.
I saw this in our local fb group the other day and couldn't find any sort of info to back it. The article mentions no names or sources. I'll gladly stir up a ruckus if this got some coverage / any sort of backing.

I was hesitant to post it because it doesn't give too many specifics, but I figured Forbes is a bit more credible than a lot of news sites. I will try to research more to find more info as well. Having hard to find info could mean it's a BS article... or that the law will sneak up on us.

Forbes is annoying because whenever I google something I always end up finding a forbes article about it and it's usually BS. Also I hate how the writers always have this sarcastic and condescending attitude towards their readers - I don't see how anybody could enjoy that website. I like how they have this new system where if you have your adblocker on they won't let you see their articles until you turn it off, helps me stay off the garbage and I can quickly just hit back instead of getting sucked in. Though really at the end of the day, all news sources are pretty crappy, they make their money by stirring people up and messing with their emotions - controversy = views = profits.

I was talking to one of the owners of our law firm the other day while I was flying my quad in a back parking lot. I had to mention that the really incredible thing about the drone craze is that kids are learning about electronics, avionics, physics, thermodynamics, aviation, AMATEUR RADIO and even MATH OMG. This is the best thing that has happened to education in FOUR decades!

Most of the “drone provisions” I’ve read about are contained in the pending Appropriations bill that funds the FAA. This must be passed by 3/31/16 to keep the agency running. The Senate is offering amendments and that can change daily so who knows what the final form will be.

One of the amendments that caught my eye was the “Micro Drone” amendment that would exempt UAVs under 4.4 pounds from the upcoming FAA regs on operating drones. Note that this is different from the original weight limits in the FAA registration process from last fall. This was offered, presumably, in recognition of the fact that there’s a huge hobby out there of folks who are not flying big honking drones that are interfering with, say, commercial aircraft. :D

Again, this thing is in a state of flux and what the final bill contains is anyone’s guess
