To build or to buy??

I think at this point, with the mass production of phantom and the amount of R&D they have behind it, you almost can't beat the price, even if you build yourself. The only thing with buying the phantom is that you'd still probably want to modify it quite a bit to increase the range and whatnot.

Also, personally, I feel that the process of designing, customizing, building, and maintaining the copter is just as enjoyable as flying. If you like building stuff, it's pretty awesome, plus you get a really good understanding how everything works and if you're into that sort of thing, it will get you even more interested in the hobby.

So it's really just a matter of whether or not you're looking to only fly and film or if you want to get into the hobby as a whole.

You make a very good point. As a jet engine mechanic by trait I have no problem tinkering. Although my wife hates how many hobbies it creates. I think the phantom would be a good start I just wonder if I can save any money or get better components building it on my own. I'm just lost on what components are better and where to spend money and where I could save
