Taming The Texas Wind

Hi,

I started flying a micro around the living room this winter and I'm loving it. But there's only so much you can learn about flying in a room with a lot of furniture and a chandelier hanging in the middle. So, I want to buy a quad that I can fly outside. The issue is that, here in North Texas, there's rarely a calm day. Typically, there's a "breeze" blowing between 5 and 20 mph.

I need a drone that's hefty enough to handle at least a little wind and a crash now and then. My budget is $150 max. I'd appreciate some ideas on what to buy. All help gratefully accepted.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I've flown my bugs3 in some strong winds and it handled it great. Banggood has them for about $114. Best bang for your buck if you ask me.

It is easiest to argue with the wind when outfitted with GPS.

There are several choices in your price range including the MJX Bugs 2, JJRC JJPRO X3, Syma X8 Pro, & several Hubsans.

The wind doesn't even calm down after the sun goes down?

Depends on the day.

I'm also in North Texas and suffer from our wind. My brushed whoop class and brushed toy (HS181) both do poorly in the wind so they are indoor flyers. My Mavic Air does great in the wind, partially GPS/partially brushless motors. I would guess that any brushless quad would do pretty well in moderate wind.
