Taking your drone on an airplane

Hi Guys

It seems like you need to secure the Lithium batteries within the drone, and carry any spare batteries in your cabin baggage. And also do they ask you at check in to remove the drone from your luggage, so they can check it out?

I'm traveling to Australia in December for 3 months

No experience yet travelling with large lipos but would get lipo safe bags/pouches that are flame resistant and will help contain a fire in the worst case scenario. Also call the airports you'll be using in advance to see what their policy is to know ahead of time. Pretty sure what goes is ultimately up to airport security but if you can print any documents about travelling with lipos the airport itself directs you to that will help. For the most part I've heard people aren't hassled much about it but better to be over prepared than lose your stuff.

Took my drones to Europe two years ago, I kept all my lipos (2s and 3s) in Lipo safe bags, XT30 connections on the lipo covered with electric tape. and took all in my carry-on backpack. No LIPO in cargo. No battery in drone if they are removable. TSA/XRAY/security checks here and there, no issues, no questions. I took my PC and IPAD out of the backpack turned them and left the drones and lipos in the backpack. They inspected my backpack of drones and lipos, looked at them and said nothing.

I've carried a few 5200 mAh in my carry on before, and some smaller LiPos in my checked luggage. I would suggest end caps on your connectors and perhaps a LiPo bag for each battery. Be sure that it is packed in such a way as to avoid punctures. One note is that I've only flown within the US with them, so you might need to check local laws and adapt your precautions to whatever is acceptable.

I may or may not have written "NiMH" on my batteries the first few flights I did with them. :P
