Syma X5C with FPV?

Hi all,

I'm just looking at getting into aerial photography - nothing serious (at least at first) and was toying with getting a Syma X5C. I understand they are limited but for a first go I think from reviews it will be a good starter.

What I would relay like though is FPV as well. What will I need to do to get this - assuming it will even be possible to do on a Syma X5C. I have android tablets I can use as the screen (I did read somewhere about a Bluetooth solution so that may work).

Basically am I dreaming or just going to have to spend big money/get something more ambitious?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to posting about my first flight when it happens :)

It doesnt look like it does FPV, a lot of these toy level quads are not able to be modified so thats a drawback but for the price it seems like an ok starter. At least you won't be out a ton of money if you have a fly away or bad crash. You basically have one way communication. The radio transmitter sends commands to the quad and the quad executes them. The quad does not talk back to the transmitter. To have FPV you need a radio transmitter in the quad sending the video signal back to a reciever which sends it's signal to a video monitor or video goggles. Nothing is impossible but probably not likely as everything is governed by weight and power restrictions. I think Hubsan makes one (X-4?) that has a small color screen on the transmitter, it's probably the cheapest ready to fly FPV quad out there.

Thanks for the reply John. Sorry for the delay replying but I have been away for a week in the the land the wifi forgot.

So after having some more looking and thinking how does this sound for a plan?

Buy myself a Syma X1 to learn with. I know this is essentially the same as the x5 mins the camera but from what I understand the controller is a standard type. This leads to part two of the plan...

When I feel confident I can get myself a Walkera QR W100. From reviews it's seems it's not too wonderful flying with the app as the controller but it should bind with the controller from the X1. Later I can fit something like an 808 #16 underneath to give better pictures while using the tablet simply as a screen to see what's in fame.

Does this sound like something that would work or have I got something wrong here?

Well it seems that the syma is priced right and if you can make that controller work with the walkera than thats a bonus. You may find that the smaller quads are a little squirrelly but then again maybe not. Having a plan is better than just trowing money at it and seeing what happens. My first build was a DJI 450 and after one year I finally have it where I want it and it's finished. I hope to start another project soon.

Thanks for the advice and help. My x1 is ordered and on its way. Apparently the bigger fpv copter (whatever I decide on) will be arriving via Santas sleigh this year :)

My Syma x5C, X5SC, and X8C all do FPV great on my Nextbook. You can do FPV on an X5C with a Syma camera. X5SW-12-Camera-228x228.jpg
