syma x5c continues to climb even with no user input.

Hi
I've google the answer to this on multiple forums but cant find the answer so I'm unsure if this is normal for a drone/ quadcopter to behave like this.

Basically if I press up on the controller and then take my finger off it the drone keeps climing up. So Then I have to press down and when I take my finger off and it will continue to go down until it hits the floor. So I am continually having to adjust the height. Is this normal as it seems impossible to get any sort of steady flight.

I assumed that if I pressed up on the controller it would climb until i took my finger off and then hover at that level or thereabouts. Is this not the case or is it broken?

I've tried resetting it.

You need to train your thumb to make small corrections to get it to hover. Try lifting off slowly to about 3' then try to hold it there making minor movements tomaintain the height. It will come it take practice.
 
OP - sounds like you are expecting the THROTTLE to behave like the PITCH/ROLL stick. Pitch/roll stick automatically returns to "center" where the throttle up/down stays "where you left it" until you move it again (YAW, which is the left right rotation of the quad is the THROTTLE stick also but DOES return to center when you move it). Typically, I will (on my X5C) give it 3/4 to full throttle to lift it off the ground but then QUICKLY modulate the throttle to the height I want it to fly. It's a CONSTANT adjustment that you have to pay attention to throughout flight. Hope this helps!
 
These toy quads arent like the more expensive quads with GPS hold and you have to constantly make corrections to the throttle to keep it where you want it...Basically your finger should never leave the throttle stick and like others have said you need to practice moving in small amounts of the throttle stick to somewhat maintain your altitude...Its not going to maintain its height no matter how much throttle you give or take away..Just when you think its staying put it will start to drop or possibly lift..Keep in mind wind plays a big part in that as well...Its not going to stay in one exact spot no matter what.

Its not really as hard as it might sound and you will get the hang of it.

To add to this, my Syma X5c is unusable outdoors in a gentle breeze... the motors aren't strong enough to keep it in one place. My HobbyKing special I just got worked great Tuesday in a heavy breeze, not quite a stiff breeze. It's heavier and has more powerful motors and seems to be able to deal with the wind a LOT better.
