Syma X5C-1 problem?

I just got this syma X5C-1 for Christmas. I didn't crash it very hard at all (it only dropped a few feet) but it landed in an area that was uneven so when I tried to take off one propeller taped the ground. It seemed to work normally for a few seconds but then one blade stopped turning. If you turn it by hand it turns freely about ½ turn then it seems to bind. The gears look like brand new, nothing looks bent and I don't see any other problems! Would it be a bad motor? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Hi mate it could have a bent shaft , if you remove the motor ,turn this and see if it gets stuck , then if thats ok check the gears , this will tell you where the problem is , its may just be some thing stuck behind the gear that you cant see

I'll have to wait until someone can help me tear it apart to check it out since I am a quadriplegic. Looking at the gear while someone turns the propeller nothing looks bent. I guess we'll just have to tear it apart to get to the problem. Thanks for the advice!

Hi it may be the motor it has coreless motors and can get damaged by a hard know the Hubsan has this problem after a lot of hard landings a motor would jam , its just a matter of replacing the motor , Do you live near me i am in luton UK if you are i can help you sort it

Thanks holtneil! But I'm not anywhere close to you... At all! I'm in Tucson Arizona. I really appreciate the offer though! I'm pretty sure it's the motor so I'm going to order a new one and I'll get one of my friends to install it. It may take awhile to get someone to come over to fix it but we'll get it eventually. How do I determine if I need motor a or motor b? Thanks again! :)

HI Mate they normally come as a pack of 2 or 4, but the wire colours are different on the cw to the ccw, if they have not got a plug on them your need to solder them , if the motor turns the wrong way after just change the wires round and re solder , coreless motors dont last long so if cheaper to get 4 do so and your have spares

Awesome! Thanks again!

Oh, I meant to ask you, on the x5c-1 are all of the motor holders interchangeable? Or are they side specific? I'm guessing they're interchangeable but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again!

Az - The small drop may have knocked a motor lead off due to poor cold solder so check wires inside first but you will need spare m
That was my assumption, that they are interchangeable as long as the motor isn't mounted. I ordered four new motors now I'm going to get a motor holder and an extra set of props. It's something more than the motor wire having come loose because it partially binds up. I'm sure we'll get it! Thanks again!

Does anyone know why my Syma x5c-1 quadcopter does not hover, I changed a motor, and re-calibrated the quad, and it still doesn't hover...

Hi mate is motor spinning the right way ? if yes is the prop on the right way up ? have you got the right prop on the right motors ,
Motors should spin front left cw, front right ccw, back left ccw , back right cw

When I changed the motor, I also put the new propellers on because the other ones were damaged. It's hard because the propellers are not different colors, when I hit the accelerator, the quad just lifts up on one end.

Hi sounds like props are wrong here is a video I did for one of the guys I know your props are small be they will still have a leading edge, so this will help

I got an xX5-c just the other day, which also worked normally for a few minutes, then had one motor stop. After a lot of fooling around I just gritted my teeth and took the thing apart (multi tiny screws just aching to get lost!). Eventually I separated the top from the bottom and, just as I suspected, the dead motor had one lead to the board that had come off (Chinese are still learning to solder I guess). Got it all back together okay, but then discovered that all quad props are not created equal: their blades are canted for either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation. This makes sense if you think about it for a minute or so but then, who knew I needed to be an aeronautical engineer to fly one of these thing "out of the box" as they are so fond of saying. Still, it performs fine between crashes caused by its inexperienced pilot, now and the thing is totally amazing for the money. And, it would be even more amazing if these Asians who are so adept at invention and marketing could spare the money for an English-speaking writer to produce their manuals...

I ordered a Syma X5C and it got stuck on a roof. I left it there for a couple of days, it rained. I eventually got it back, I took it apart dried the wet parts, to my surprise everything still worked.

Then I put it back together, I did a test and it didn't lift off the ground, it tilted forward and didn't hover. I ordered a new receiver board and replaced it, that didn't work - still had the same problem, I thought it was the motors. I then ordered a new quadcopter, that worked and after a while, a motor died.

I decided to get new motors for both of the Syma X5C's, and new screws for the first because I lost quite a few and other parts for the first one.

So I replaced the motors on the second Syma X5C, and to my surprise, the same thing that had happened to my first X5C happened to the second one aswell.
So I thought it can't be the motors, nor the receiver board. I then did a little searching. I found something which solved my problem, I was glad that I finally resolved the problem but at the same time really annoyed, because I did so much for one quad.

If you look under the propellers, they should have a letter and a number under them (Example: A1 or B1) forget the numbers, it should either have A or B.
The ones with 'A' are the propellers with the Warning sign to the left.
The ones with 'B' are the propellers with the Warning sign to the right.

The problem had to do with the blade/propeller distribution:

1. Place the quadcopter with both of the red lights facing forward.
2. The position for the propellers above the red lights are:
  • The left Red Light should have the propeller with the "warning" sign to the left - The one with the letter A under it.
  • The right Red Light should have the propeller with the "warning" sign to the right - The one with the letter B under it.
3. The position for the propellers above the green lights are:
  • The left propeller above the Green Light should have the propeller with the "warning" sign to the right.
  • The right propeller above the Green Light should have the propeller with the "warning" sign to the left.
Look at the Image if you don't understand:

Hope I could help.

Thank You
