syma x5c-1 camera problems

Well, maybe after you get your replacement camera it'll happen again.
These things are great!
I flew my X5C-1 today. I also have a DJI Phantom 1.1.1 but I don't think I'll ever get tired of the X5C-1

I like the look of the phantom I'm buying a complete set of parts so I never have to be without it

I bought another one last week.....because I never want to be without one either. :)
I'll fly it once and check it out to make sure everything works, then box it up until the day my primary is down.

By the way, I was out flying it today in some pretty strong winds. 15-20mph with gusts to 26mph.
On Low setting was no good but on high setting, no problem at all.

it takes VERY little throttle to fly it in winds.

What I meant was I bought another X5C-1....NOT another Phantom ;-)

I find that flying in higher winds with the X5C-1 such as 15 - 25mph makes me a MUCH better pilot. I flew in higher winds day before yesterday and it was not as easy, but definitely not a big problem. Just be prepared for the extra lift because winds make the X5C climb like crazy. All you have to do is have it in Hi Power setting and be good with throttle.

After flying in winds, I flew it yesterday in calm conditions and found that my skills had improved a LOT. I really believe that to become really good at flying these things you need to get out of the comfort zone and take on the tougher flying, like higher winds and push yourself.

I am soooooooo close to being able to control this like a pro. I need a few more hours of flying but I'm finding everything easier and easier.
Going MUCH higher....farther out....flying nose in or out. I still have to hone my long distance re-orientation skills but I'm beginning to work on that now.

You have to push yourself a bit. Fly in the wind. Fly nose in a lot. Eventually your brain wires up the reflexes to do it naturally.

I think the worse thing someone can do is get a drone with Headless mode and just get lazy. ..always counting on the drone's nav aids to get them out of trouble.

I wouldn't throw the bad camera away just yet. Make sure the new one works (rule out the connector and main board). It could also be a wire inside the camera.

Yea I'm thinking of buying a new x5c -1 you have made me think about trying it in stronger winds cheers mate I'm on my way out to have a go

You know, I just wouldn't want to be two or three weeks without one in case there was some special footage I wanted to get or just wanted to fly.

The X5C-1 is small enough and inexpensive enough to even throw in the scooter trunk and carry around (WITH prop guards!). I've been out on the scooter sometimes and just park and go up for some aerial footage just because it looks interesting or I wanted to see what was behind / beyond / over something or just for the view. Can't do that with the Phantom. Losing it would not be a deal breaker. Just a heart breaker.

That's exactly why I bought a 2nd one plus a stash of replacement parts. :)

When I was looking for a mini drone I got a LOT of recommendations. I am SO glad I settled on the X5C-1

But I do have to admit that I did the antenna / range hack.

Is it easy to do the range hack and can it mess the quad up, as i would hate to mess it up i think I will get another one it's so cool to fly it in the back field

I would say it's easy to mess up the quad if you're not used to doing somewhat intricate / delicate work on electronics.
I think anyone "can" do it with patience and just a bit of know how. But yes, I always worry that I may break something when I'm doing mods.

I did the Transmitter hack a few weeks back and today did the Receiver antenna extension hack.
I'm "hoping" for about 150 meters range. Anything more and it's icing on the cake. (and really hard to see the quad)
I'm about to go to the park to try it out now :)

Tested the Antenna mod

On the ground.....about 100 meters
In the air.....lost sight of the drone before the range ran out. Probably 150 meters or around 400 - 450ft

MORE than enough for any purpose I have for this drone.

I would say that of the two mods, the Transmitter mod was most effective accounting for probably 80% of the increase.
Nothing to back that up. just a guess
