Syma X5 in tree for two months!

My favorite Syma X5C was stuck in a tree for the past two months. We have had a very wet summer. It went through an uncounted number of rain storms. Some were very hard downpours that resulted in local flooding. I wrote it off. It was 35' up in a very sketchy poplar tree. Too dangerous to climb.

We finally recovered it when a friend of mine went up a 20' ladder and used an 18' fiberglass pole I rigged up with a hook on the end. AFTER we tried many times with "alternative retrieval methods" that all failed.

I was most concerned with the chip I had in the camera. I figured that was worth more than the whole drone.

When the drone came down I looked it over really good. Expecting the motors to be rusty and the main circuit board to be completely corroded. But instead, the drone looked like I had it in a closet or a case for two months! Everything looked fine on it.

The battery is toasted! BUT it did flash the lights for two or maybe even three days while it was up in the tree, to my surprise.

So, just for sh*ts and giggles I put a fresh battery and tried it in my living room. It took right off! I quickly opened the front door and flew it outside for a whole battery ..... some 8 minutes or so!

The drone works fine! Including the camera! Nothing at all wrong with it! After spending two months, two WET months in a tree, 35' up!

My advice for anybody who wants to get into flying a drone, PLEASE start with a Syma X5! You will not regret it!

I do own two Phantoms, an Aerosky X350, and a Walkera X350 pro, among other drones (I have maybe 18 drones or so) (I don't really know how many I have!), but the Syma is still one of my favorite drones to fly! They are fun to fly, and easy and inexpensive to repair. I can't say enough about the Syma X5C!

"I really don't know how many drones I have"

Yep you are on the correct forum lol. Congratulations on your rescued drone!

I once counted 18. But then I lost one (off the back of my motorcycle) (a true "fly away") and sold a few, but then I bought a couple more ..... so I own somewhere around 18 ... unless you count bodies that I have all the parts for! LOL! I "potentially have" about 25 drones of all prices, shapes and sizes. The only drone I totally lost was my first drone I bought, and my all time favorite drone! It was an X5 explorer clone.

It was up there taunting you.

Yes it was. If drones could laugh it would have been laughing at me.

BUT as it turns out, two months at the top of the tree cooking in the hot summers sun and getting drenched in torrential downpours, somehow made the camera better! Now my little Syma X5C camera takes almost as good a photo as my DJI Phantom with a GoPro camera!

It was worth every minute of "curing it" in the top of a tree for two months.

Somehow, the ageing process took the camera from .3MP to over a 10MP quality. Well worth the wait.
