STORM Drone 6 GPS Flying Platform

Sky Kite,

I had the exact issue and finally got a response from Helipal. The key is to calibrate the tilt knob in the NAZA assistant software simply by hooking your PC to the mini USB of the LED unit and clicking calibrate the X1 port within the RC tab (X1 Calibration "Start") then turn the knob on the Devo remote completely in both directions. Bam, you're done. Below see the wiring set up from the NAZA M V2 to the Devo Receiver. Notice the cable is flipped (White red black - black red white)

Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul, you're a star - I really appreciate your help with this !:)

I'll have a look and see about using the NAZA assistant software to calibrate AUX 2 and keep my fingers (if not my wires) crossed. I have the Naza-M-Lite unit and there wasn't a Naza software disc in the package I received (although there is a disc for the Devention 7) but there might be one on the Helipal site or elsewhere on the net....

I paid Helipal to assemble and calibrate my gimbal before shipping so I was rather expecting not to have to calibrate it myself ! Ho humm...

Thanks for the images of the wiring which you've helpfully labelled up for me but I think we might be talking about different cables - I'm talking about the cable that connects the gimbal to the Naza unit [Edit: now the Aux 2 connection on the receiver unit] - please see photos below.

Huge thanks again for your help with this...

Photo 1 of 3 shows the short cable that came connected to the gimbal at the end labelled 'A' - As you can see, the middle wire at this end is black. The end labelled 'B' connects to the extension cable supplied with the camera re-positioning kit. As you can see, the middle wire at this end is red, i.e. they have swapped the red and black wires around. This looks strange to me and I don't know whether it is right or not.

The colours of the wires at the end labelled 'B' match those of the extension cable that connects to them.

Having now re-read the clues in the manuals and thinking about it some more after reading your posts, I have now connected the extension cable into the Aux 2 connection on the receiver (rather than to the F2 connection on the Naza unit, which is where I used to think it went).

AND, lo and behold, I can now adjust the camera position !!! [YAY !]

BUT in roll, not tilt !!! [BOO !]

Photo 2 of 3 shows the position on the Tarot 2D gimbal's board where cable end 'A' was connected when I received it, i.e. the right side set of 3 pins when looking from front to rear of the drone. The other two sets of pins were empty.

Cable end 'A' will fit on these pins either way around and, being an idiot, I've forgotten which way around it goes. However, neither way around currently works and, once I know that I've got everything else right, then it will have to be one of two ways....

I have found the Naza Lite assistant software (and the manual and driver) on the DJI website and have downloaded it. I'm slightly nervous of installing it though because, when I went to do that it immediately asked me to connect the unit to my laptop and I don't want it to automatically reset everything to some default value if Helipal (as they should have done) have already set it up and calibrated it all for me. Therefore, do you know whether the software will allow me to make a note of all the settings before changing anything ?

Also, and something that I perhaps should have said earlier, I have a spare cable that came with the package but I have no idea what it is for (see photo 3 of 3 below) - any ideas at all ?

Really sorry to ask so many questions ! And huge thanks again for your help ! :)

Software: It won't reset your settings but it will let you see what they are set to. It will only revert to defaults if you click the restore defaults button depending on what section you are in.
Cable: I suspect that extra cable is so you can connect to the gimbal in whatever config you want. I don't know which wire goes where but perhaps this thread can shed some light: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1988607 Scroll down a bit and there's an image of the wiring to the NAZA. I have mine into the X1 port of my NAZA M V2 but perhaps the NAZA Lite uses the F1 and F2. This should get you what you're looking for though.

Once again Paul - Huge thanks for this ! - There looks to be lots of useful stuff on the thread you've pointed me at - I will now go off and have a read through it all, and try to digest it ! Cheers.

Just a quick update to say Huge Thanks again Paul - with help from the link you kindly provided, I've managed to sort this out by wiring up the correct pin on the gimbal direct to the Aux 2 connection on the receiver unit- it works perfectly now ! :)

Sky kite, I am having somewhat similar issue. Like you I ordered it to be set up...pfffft. Know how then went. My issue is that the gimbal powers but for the life of me cannot get it to tilt with the aux2 knob. When I connect to Naza-m lite to calibrate the knob...nada...it doesn't move. Could you be so kind as to show the final set up connections you have as I am sure you'll be quicker than asking china. :)

Hi CaptnBly - I think this might just be a fairly common issue but, as I discovered with Paul's help, the answer is actually quite simple once you know how !

Part of the trick is not to try and connect the gimbal to the Naza Unit at all - instead, connect the gimbal direct to the Aux 2 connection on the Devo RX701 2.4GHz Receiver unit.

If yours was set up by Helipal in the same way as mine, the RX701 is directly underneath the Naza unit and, helpfully (!), you can't see the top surface which is the one that is labelled....

But please see the photos attached.

Because everything is powered from the same battery, you only need to connect one pin on the gimbal (circled in the attached photos) with one pin on the RX701 (also circled in the attached photos).

In order to do this, I have used the white from the 3 to 1 'splitter' cable (see attached photo) connected onto the correct pin on the gimbal (i.e. A connected to A) in the attached photos. The other end of the 3 to 1 splitter cable is then connected to the extension cable that came with the camera re-positioning kit, and the other end of that is connected into the Aux 2 connection of the RX701 unit (2nd set of pins in from the left) - making sure that the white on that cable is uppermost, i.e. so the correct gimbal pin is connected by way of the two cables to the top pin of the Aux 2 connection on the RX701 unit.

I'm pretty sure I've made this sound far more complicated than it is, but hopefully this will help ! Good luck.

Thank you. I believe I did what your instructions detailed (maybe) I have attached photos of my set up as it is still a no-go. I swear, you could make a few bucks easily by creating instructions and sell them for $5ea. I'd pay...lol. Everything else on the drone works fine and it flies great I just can't get this darn tilt to work and its killing me. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? Are there any settings on the software or TX that I may be missing? Again, thank you for replying.

I may be wrong CaptnBly but your photo looks like you may be connecting to the wrong pin on the gimbal - it needs to be the middle pin on the right hand 'column' of 3 (I think your photo is showing that you have connected the white wire to the rearmost of the right hand 'column' of 3).

I certainly didn't have to change any settings on the software or TX (although, in my search for a solution, I too started to think about whether I needed to).

Let me know... and good luck !

CaptnBly

I concur that it looks as though you're one pin off from the correct placement.

Thanks Gentlemen, I moved the white wire to the middle pin on the right side as indicated and .....pfffft. nothing still. I uploaded a blurry pic; http://www.flickr.com/photos/69950869@N07/14101812892 (iPhone doesn't like extreme close ups) and for the life of me am starting to think of maybe a faulty board? I dunno. Been at this for a good few weeks and am tiring as everyone else seems to be having success getting it to go. Weird. I am kinda at a loss at this point.

Well you definitely have it in the right spot. I would write Jacky Lee at Helipal.com and explain the situation (as simply as possible) and see what he suggests. I can tell you from having to return something to Helipal for an exchange, you're better off just buying the new part if it's under $100. Shipping to Hong Kong is crazy expensive and a pain.

Best of luck.

Hmm.... sorry to ask but the white on that wire is connected through to the top pin on the Aux 2 connection on the RX701 and everything is switched on ?

If it is and nothing is happening, I'm afraid that you've hit the end of my very limited knowledge...

Is the gimbal light flashing blue ?

You could also just try connecting to the front right hand pin as a check - as this should, in theory, make the Aux 2 knob control camera roll (and it does on mine)...

yeah, i'm afraid I'm at the end of my knowledge as well. Sent the info to Helipal but as to your question yes, I can get rotors active, gimbal levels, blue light flashes but no tilt. LOL. thanks for your time :) a really appreciate it. happy flying.
