Can anyone help a real newbie with some pointers?
As a spare time project I want to try building a Quadcopter to learn
a. How they work from the bottom up,
and
b. To be able to fly safely before investing in something more expensive that is ready made
It does not have to be able to do anything such as carry a payload like a camera, (though that might be nice in a while) I just what to use it for
a. and b. above then I will see what else is possible.
I would like help with a shopping list of parts. (I cannot say money is no object because it is, and the way I would fly it would be expensive crash bang wallop etc.)
From another project I have several (at least 4, somewhere...) https://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/brushless-motor-1000kv.html
I also picked up https://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/quadcopter-power-distribution-board-assembled.html
I know I will need 4 x ESCs, should I go for 20A, or 30A to sart with?
I'd like a frame ( or I could print one / Ebay)
I'd like a handset / remote controller (No sure of the terminology, new to all this) Good starter brands ?
I'd like a 'brain' for the Quad, again not sure of the terminology (compatible with the remote controller presumably?)
What does APM (leads) mean, I checked that and it seems to relate to telemetry but other than that.
I also need power source advice, what rating LiPo would be safe (I DO understand these are dangerous and should not be poked with sharp sticks, but other than that I am still researching)
I am not asking for a shopping list or for anyone to 'do' my project for me, but I would appreciate help with terminology and or links to reference material / sites.
I am more than happy to look further for myself, but would be keen for some guidance from those more experienced. than I.
NB. Everyone was a newbie once. I know I will (am) ask dumb questions for some but I am trying and I've laid out my reasoning above.
So thanks to anyone finding the time to reply.
