Some OT Plane stuff and Meta discussion

I see no problem posting this type of stuff under general as it is somewhat relevant, and I'm sure some people on here dabble in R/C planes (well at least I've started to hahaha).

Perhaps an Off-Topic section with other RC stuff like Planes and helis would be nice if there are enough people with an interest in them?

Quadcopters are adaptations of other R/C flying devices. Helicopters and R/C nitro and electric planes actually precede quadcopters. When I was a kid it was U-Fly Planes (strings attached) running with nitro motors, then R/C came into being with a whole new way of flying model aircraft. Quads are not so remotely different. They still are R/C controlled and they fly. I think a separate discussion topic would be a good idea for non-quad R/C aircraft. It would open a new spectrum and could be beneficial to all R/Cers. I own an twin counter-rotating R/C Helicopter, which is as difficult to fly as the quad I own. I see little difference in the performance and knowledge demands between the two.

Maybe a fixed wing section, and a helicopter section would be nice. Off topic would still be nice too though lol

I was looking at a fixed-wing electric plane. They can be pricey but you can learn allot from them in terms of aerodynamics and flight control. They can be a good start towards taking flight training and actually piloting an aircraft from inside it. However, one would ask why some aircraft manufacturer has yet to develop a manned quad. It can't be more complex that designing a R/C quad. Of course, I'm not an aeronautics engineer but simplicity is always better than complexity. Engineers tend to think more than do anything.

Why can't one put a camera inside the cockpit of an R/C Fixed-wing and FPV it the same way we do it with quads? That would be cool, just like your actually inside the plane, flying it.

Hi mate I fly quads and helis and planks , loads of my mate do planes ( planks is there nick name ) some planes use an in runner motor not out runners like quads , it depend on the planes size if your get away with 9 grm servos , they do auto pilot systems with return home and gyros to make them very stable , you want a fairly good transmitter as you may need the do some mixing to make it easy to fly ,and switches for flaps etc
Check out rcmodelreviews on you tube Bruce has lots of FPV planes

Here is one that was unveiled at CES, but saftey is a real concern as quadcopters are not stable without power like a helicopter is. Helicopters are MUCH safer in the case of some equipment failure.

We used to have a section for other multirotors and it didn't get used, so adding planes, helis, etc. separately might break things up too much. So I think Off-Topic is a good idea. Or maybe just something in general for other RC stuff. I'll think about it and add something this week.
