Yah I think it is good to get a really cheap or diy kit machine to start because you will beat it up and/or learn things along the way so not worth breaking the bank unless you know what things do and why you might want extra bells and whistles and which ones you care about.
 
Nice examples of what can be done though in terms of precision here and cool idea with the 3d printed flowers for the vases, especially like the treehouse and Superman.
