What's up all - I've been an R/C geek since the mid 80's and used to be a slave to my parents and extended family for work to get cash to dump into my Team Associated RC10, RC10T, RC10L. I was an expert solderer by the time I was in 5th grade... I dabbled in gliders but nothing crazy.

I have always wanted a tiny helocopter since they came out but I never saw one that I liked that was that right price and I really didnt want to pay $100 for one that I was going to ruin.
My wife knows me better than I know myself and she picked up a Propel Zipp Nano from Costco a few weeks ago and since then I have been flying it pretty much every single time it's done charging.
I had an insane 'hero save' during thanksgiving when I was flying it for my nieces. The wind got a hold of it outside and I was totally convinced that it was lost. The dammed thing was so far away, I could hardly see it. I CANNOT believe that it was still within range - it must have been at least three blocks away, maybe more.
Either way, I somehow managed to fight it back to where we were. One of the engines is finally toast so Im waiting on parts but in the mean time I bought myself a Christmas present: Syma X8HG

It should come in this week - CANNOT wait!

I already have a GoPro Hero 4 so I'm looking forward to something a little more serious before dropping more serious coin on a DJI Phantom or possibly a Mavic.

I have started a total quad-craze in my office and about half of the people i work with have bought micro's and have air fights.

;)

Anyways, I'm here to learn and man do I have a lot to learn....

cheers

Welcome to the board! It's always interesting to hear exactly how people got hooked. It's usually a very similar story, but it never gets old. It brings me back each time. I started because my buddy got each of his close friends a cheap syma helicopter for Christmas. I flew it every time the batteries finished charging. I used to put up obstacles and fly so many missions around the house. Unfortunately, back then, the next step up was like $1500 in R&D, trying to build a quadcopter with some buddies. That was no fun since we barely got it off the ground and had to take turns trying to fly it. Nothing worse than everyone meeting up at the park and the first guy skipping the quad across the field, breaking 3 of the arms - then having to all pitch in to order new frame parts from Hong Kong and wait for 3-5 weeks for them to show up. Things are so much better now =) Instant gratification! Well almost. There's still some shipping time - but when the stuff shows up, it's all so much more proven, so you know it will work!

in what year did you get started with quad copters? I was an R/C JUNKY for years and years and never remember exactly when quads came on the scene as I had to remove myself as to not drop out of college (even though I had a short and ill fated couple of moths with a used RC10L that I got well used off of eBay....)

It was late 2011. I had a few toy RC cars as a kid, but could never really afford to get into the hobby seriously back then. Through my teen years, I got into computers, so that filled my time. If I had the time now, I'd probably expand beyond multi-rotors and start messing around with buggies. Or maybe just more functional robots. Too bad I have 30+ years until I retire =)

Stick with the multirotors! I thought I'd mess around with a cheap buggy, and here it is - 5 grand later hahaha
