RTH in an acro drone?

Hey all,
I'm relatively new to all the quadcopter stuff however one of the things I'm looking for in my next build is a return to home feature tied into my racing drone. So far, I understand a GPS unit is required however the best recommendation I can get is to grab an Eagle Tree Vector and skip everything else completely. I'd like to avoid that large expenditure so I'm curious if it's possible to say, take a flip 32 omnibus f3 or f4, flash it with Eagle Tree firmware, and use the integrated OSD with a separate GPS unit and video system? I like the Omnibus F4's and I would think with the OSD, the SD card reader, and the F4 processing capability it would be possible, I'm just too new to know lol. Any advice?
Thanks,

Nope, ET is closed source. You do have a couple options though. Your best bet is to go with iNav firmware (I believe Painless360 has a whole 10 part series on iNav on Youtube), it'll work with OS boards like the Omni and if I'm not mistaken, it's actually one of the boards that's recommended when using iNav. IMO this is your best option, as the only added component required to your system is a small GPS module. As for an ET system, nope, too big and bulky for a small racing drone but they do also make an Eagle Tree Micro Vector. Be warned though, last I remembered it had all kinds of problems.

All that being said, bottom line is that these mini quads were never intended to have GPS which is why you never see it being done. Best off to use it for what it is and build or buy another larger, more stable AC with GPS capabilities. I have a Tarot 650 Sport that despite it's size and weight, it's actually quite fast and sporty. But yeah, it's pretty cool that you can flip a switch and it'll just turn around and come back to you like a dog out for a walk hahaha

That sounds like a solid plan, thanks! What size would you think is the smallest I can make it without running into various design compromises? 450-500 is my thoughts but I just can't get rid of the idea of how cool it would be to have RTH in a little 250 lol any frame recommendations?
