Recent Height Records

I'd seen the first one a while ago, but just watched the 10km one in Siberia tonight. The whole time I was like "when is that battery going to die and that quad crashes to the ground".

I had the same thought! But then I ws wondering how would he retrieve the video? For awhile, it is inverted as it descends, then later, when close to the ground he hovers awhile before landing - amazing endurance, especially considering the temperature!

Yeah, but it still could have crashed and had the video recovered. I had to stop myself from skipping to the end because I was enjoying the suspense. Sorry if we've spoiled it for those that haven't seen it :)

I wonder if the same thing was attempted in a warmer climate if it wouldn't get a bit more altitude. I realize it's extremely cold once you get way up there, but maybe the batteries would stay a little warmer - I don't know. I half expected it to have a recovery parachute when he inverted.

I recently saw a thread on the DJI boards where they mod Mavic models for distance records and a few folks are getting out to 10 miles - and returning 10 miles.
Also very impressive in a different way.
