Receiver and motors don't work

my receiver is connected to the radio, but betaflight isn't recognizing it. I'll move around the controls and betaflight shows no change in the receiver tab. Also under the motors tab, the motors won't turn on. I'm moving the sliders but nothing happens.
 
Sounds like theres a problem with the link from fc to laptop. Make sure you follow the correct order of steps when you connect your usb.
