Quadcopter Comparison

Hi All,

I have flown a couple of basic quadcopters over the last couple of years. But would like to try out a GPS Quad. Limited budget so i was looking at these two...

Quanum Nova GPS QuadCopter
and
Walkera QR X350 PRO Plug and Fly Quadcopter

Does anyone have any experience with either of these? And/or some Pro's and Con's?

Would like to get peoples opinions before i spend the money.

Kind Regards

I cannot comment on these machines but for the GPS to be effective you need compatible ground station software. Mission Planner is the go to waypoint software for laptops and there are a few others that will run a android device. I believe is you load Mission Planner on your computer you can see if there is a default configuration file for the quadcopter, if not you will need to select the next closest and do your own configuration.

The Quanum says: MAVLink compatible allowing for GPS waypoint mission flying, advanced tuning and so much more (for Advanced users), this may be enough but I am not sure, you need to do some research and see if others are doing waypoint flying and what ground station they are using.
The Walkera seems to have GPS stabilization, does not seem to have waypoint flying.

I just ordered a Quanum Nova. My wife accidentally (??) drove over my mini. I wanted something a little larger to fly while finishing/repairing my various quad projects and the Nova looks hard to beat. It's a Cheerson CX20 re-badged. A lot of those have been sold so how bad can it be? It comes with all the same software that the highly touted $600 3dr Robotics Iris has. Sounds like a deal to me. I should get mine in a week or so. I'll let you know how it flies.

I also am getting the Quanum Nova, and it looks like the better option to me too. Out of the two, I'd definitely say that, for the money, the Quanum is the way to go. They can both lift a GoPro, however, I do believe you will be much more satisfied with the cheaper, but definitely not underpowered, Quanum. I'd say the two main cons for the Walkera is that (1) it's much more expensive than the Nova for about the same features, and (2) it gets some pretty bad reviews, while the Nova gets fantastic reviews all across the internet. (When you buy, I'd either recommend buying from hobbyking.com or gearbest.com). :)

My motto:
"If you think you don't need a new drone, think again!" (You can never have too many drones)! ;)

Well, I'm basing this from a couple of places in particular, and it does get quite a lot better reviews than the Walkera! The Walkera, from what I see, gets 2-2.5 star reviews, while the Nova gets 4 stars on hobbyking.com, and 4.5 stars on gearbest.com (as the Cheerson CX-20). I'm just going by what I've seen. The Nova, of course, is no Phantom, but it does appear to be rather nice for the money. **IF YOU BUY FROM HOBBYKING.COM, MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE US WAREHOUSE!**

Looking at the Nova for what it is, a cheap phantom clone, it seems to get decent performance reviews. Jackson brought up the complaints about shoddy soldering and some esc problems. I found some of those too but I also found some for the phantom and a surprising number for the blade qx. Things like soldering, esc's, balancing etc. are fixable. Shouldn't have to, but that's part of buying Chinese stuff. I admit I acted on the spur of the moment while holding the poor, broken body of my Helimax:oops:. Shouldn't shop for food when you're hungry either.

Well, you just have to keep in mind the price when buying. For the money, I'd say the Nova is pretty good! ;)

Well. We'll know soon. I have to admit to a slight bit of worry 'cause the price is a little to good. I have to learn to control my impulses......

Yeah, I'm waiting on mine to arrive, but I'll try to let everybody know how it is once I get it. ;) I ended up getting the Nova for free though, as gearbest.com is letting me review it and keep it. Can't beat free, especially when its free drones! ;)

Help. I have been in RC planes for years. At nearly 70, I looking for a more "relaxed" RC experience and like new technology. I had a PV2+ for a week a year ago. I have heard and experienced DJI "customer service". I have watched the launch of the 3D Solo. Worst product roll-out I have ever seen. My budget is not a driver. I would love to jump for a Vision but am scared of DJI service. I wouldn't want to see a $3,000 investment disappear into their black-hole for months. So what are anyone's recommendations....I like tech goodies and capabilities. I have helio experience so I do not want to take "baby steps". All thoughts welcome.

I'd say DJI is good choice, or you could DIY. DJI products can be repaired by your self if you don't want to deal with them.

Ya know. There's one other worth looking into. XAircraft America. They are based in Charleston SC. All the articles I have read give them kudos for their great customer service. They custom build you a multi based on what your wants are. I know they are a little pricey. I have never seen one although I do own one of their controllers which I think is exceptional.

Well, G, don't know if you've made a decision yet, but I'll toss this in. I recently purchased a Phantom 3 Advanced from DJI and couldn't be happier. easiest drone to fly I've ever owned.
Received it within a week of ordering it from DJI. It shoots awesome video, and the range is awesome
