quad fell like a rock when it lost signal.. why?

The first drone i had fell slowly once i lost signal, but recently, with another one, it lost signal and just cut it's motors and crashed, why is this? and is there a way to stop it.
I thought of popping the antenna out for more signal, but i think it would still just fall.

Hi it's how the fail safe are set up a quad with return home will come back and land , other may have props always spin when armed so these will fall slower than one with a total shut off on signal cut off

My quad is a home baby. It can't fly further than the yard because the trees are like babysitters and shoo it back or stop it cold.
