PixHawk GPS lock help

DuaneM

Drone? I don't see any drone ... crap!
I can't get a GPS lock with my new PixHawk (old version, not PixHawk 2). I'm heading to a field near me that has lots of room around to try and get a lock on ANY satellites. I have it set to 3 now, if I get a lock I'll put it back up to 6-8.

I'm wondering if the GPS unit itself is toast. The spelling on it is exactly like this: "Power ed by Ublx M6N" with the larger lettering "GPS Module with compass". I haven't found much with these spelling errors. Could this by a clone of a clone of a clone? OR just Chinese translated by a German guy translating it to English?

Anyway, I'll come back in here later today to tell you what happens, but in the meantime, does any have some ideas on this or should I just find and buy another GPS module from 3DR? (I'm not sure they sell them anymore).

I don't have any experience with PixHawk, but as far as GPS modules in general, there are millions of clones but many work great. The problem with the one you have is that it's an M6N which is slow and outdated which may explain why you haven't been able to get a fix yet. Also on initial startup of a new module, (cold start) it may take a few minutes for the internal battery to charge.

I screwed up, it is a M8N. Major brain fart going on today in multiple message threads ...

I have had it plugged in many times, even turning everything on and sitting it outside until the big battery ran down. I just got back from the field and nothing is happening. My DJI NAZA-M V2 found the GPS lock while sitting right next to this PixHawk GPS.

I'm thinking it is this GPS module that is defective. I bought the whole kit on ebay, I'll start a long tedious talk with the seller from a foreign country and a wonderfully fun language barrier.
