Phantom 3 Standard First Impressions

Wow! What a difference GPS makes.

After an initial problem with having to relink the Phantom with the controller. I have had about 12 flights around the property at home. Fun fun, one slight prop brush with a pine tree trunk. My old depth of field failed me ughh

Pro:
Solid GPS Lock. Even 7-9 Birds indoors.
Great wind resistance. Very impressive.
Flies exceptional in my limited opinion.
Plenty of flight time for me, before my neck and back start to ache, I am an old fart..:-)

Con:
Phantom is top heavy and on narrow legs. Has not been a problem so far in landing.
I hate having to attach a smart phone or tablet.
My phone and 2 Tablets would not maintain the FPV image. It would freeze early in flight.
The GUI Err sucks in my opinion. The standard look of Windows would be more clean and intuitive.

Overall, I would recommend the Phantom at this point. Interesting I thought the WIFI was generated in the Phantom, its not, it comes from the controller. I also bought a cheap $39 Fire tablet from Amazon it works fine and no FPV freezing, But no GPS.

Have fun

Bill,

Maybe some day for me, but who know. It take a year for me to save $1000 or more. If I get a car maybe I will come down. Wait I have a dog no one to watch him and he not a outside dog.

Get some video so I can see you flying it.

Have fun flying

Bill,

For me it mean more if it take longer to get that way you really want it.

If you have the money up front and you buy it then a week later you think why did I do that.

My ambition for some time has been to own a Phantom.

Now it looks like that will soon become reality - in approx 3 weeks I'll have enough
saved to get a P3 Standard, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Congrats! You will love it. It is an amazing piece of tech.

Good luck, have fun and tell us how it goes!

In case you guys are interested, I got my P3S on amazon, refurbished model, which came as if brand new, no one scratch on it, it was on sale for $325, and I actually missed the previous sale of $315 about 3 weeks before that, if you don't have it yet, I also applied for the amazon credit card, which gives you $70 gift credit upon approval, and I used about $9 of points saved up from another cc, ended up paying about $260 or so for it, with free shipping, and same warranty for 1 year just like new model.. I was also on a budget so any penny saved helped for later on upgrades.

I recommend getting a tablet mount for controller, and also the antenna upgrade for controller, this can add up the saved pennies..;)

I used dronesavings.com to find out when the deals are happening.

I do love Amazon. They have always done right by me.

I got my new P3S for about $280 doing some serious finagling like you did☺

Well, I've gone and bought one. Got an almost-new P4S (only two flights on it), with a
backpack bag and a set of ND filters, for A$500.00

I've only had it for a few days, but have done several short flights (3-7 minutes) and one
long one (16 minutes) and am VERY happy with it so far.
