Newbie buying advice needed

Hi guys, thanks for accepting my request to join the forum. Having just caught the last 5 minutes of blue peter - my son was watching. They had an piece on quad copter fpv. These machines looked very interesting tho I really don't have a clue what they all about. I have experience flying a micro one that flys in the house and I do have the hang of it. I'm also handy with those micro helicopters. I think an fpv quad copter, self stabilising, with safe return would be great fun but I don't really know what's good and what's not can any one advise me on a full fpv set up to get me flying? I guess I could budget around £750. Any advice much appreciated.

Thats a very nice budget to get started. Lots of fun to come :) You can either build or buy.

Here is a 500 that would be close to your budget that I am currently in the middle of rebuilding(no issues just want 25+ minute fpv sessions)

All of the high shots are from the 500mm shown in the above video in the beginning.

The frame and equipment are in the descriptions if this looks like what you are thinking.

Welcome to the forum seeker! I am having some computer issues so I can't send a link but check out the Storm Drone V2. You can google it and watch a bunch of videos. It is complete and in your budget. A number of the forum members have been buying them and are thrilled with the value and performance. Add on some extra batteries and props and you should be good to go!

They have? Just searched here and found nothing but a battery question. :(

Computer still wonky. Google "storm drone". Click on the 8th listing. That plus the video list sidebar shows 12 different videos of all the 250 Storm Drone models including the new V2. Didn't go beyond that but I believe that's more than 1.

I actually should have just said Storm Drone but I had just been watching the one on the 250 and it stuck in my head. Check on the forum as well. Latest was from @mistajangles "Storm Racing Drone RTF type B from Helipal". Some other members chimed in as well.

What type of budget do you have to work with? Also what are your goals and features you will need and want?

I think I'm looking for a steady stable flyer as opposed to a flat out racer. I have an area of land suitable for flying over and i like the idea of flying around and checking stuff out from a FPV set up. I guess the budget is around £700 and I'd like as much range as possible. Thanks, James

Sounds good, approximately how much range do you think you need to fly where you want? If your property is big enough a slightly cheaper quad and an antenna tracker set might be better. A 700£ budget is good. What might you want to carry? Are you going to do any film or is this just for your farm? It may also be better to spend some money on good FPV gear and good copter if your land is flat and not too big.

Hi, Well at the moment I think I'm just looking for something with good range and a clear picture that I can fly around the farm what sort of distances can expect to be able to fly? what sort of range could I go? but I'm really into the whole flying via FPV goggle thing. A helicopter would be great too as long as its fairly stable. Could you copy and paste afew links to show me what sort of quad / helicopters you think would do the job? Sorry I just have no clue where to start

Being as you want to fly FPV I'd suggest a quadcopter as helicopters are fairly difficult to fly any way but LOS. So you are looking for something RTF (ready to fly)?

I am thinking something like a DJI Phantom 1 or 2. You can get some good deals on them used.

Generally 300 meters is the expected range.
