newb hello, and a question about range

Hi all,

I'm Stuart, and new to the hobby. I've got a stock kit from RadioC, one of these - http://www.radioc.co.uk/product-p/5501.htm

I spent the last week or so on holiday and learning to fly it every day - very enjoyable, worked my way through a big bag of props, and am slowly starting to get the hang of it.

I have a few questions, which I'll post up if I may.

First one is about the range I can expect. I'm using a very old txrx at the moment, (one of these - http://hitecrcd.com/products/aircra...ucts/laser-4-72mhz-4-channel-fm-radio/product ) which I've had for years and used for unrelated projects.

I think it might be way too low on the range I can get though - if I fly it to about 150-200m away then it starts to give the occasional beep and wobble (are these symptoms of out-of-range ?). Though oddly enough doesn't seem to mind too much for a similar vertical height.

What kind of range should I be able to expect with a decent rxtx, and any suggestions as to what to get ? I'd be looking for a reasonably priced 4 channel, maybe 5 channel with an aux so I can turn self-level on and off. I'll probably be looking to do photography, and maybe fpv at some point in the future, but not yet.

I'm flying in a wide-open rural area and wouldn't be a bother to anybody, so would like to be able to fly it a long way over the valley.

Cheers,

Stuart

been doing a bit of googling, and looks clear that my old transmitter isn't up to the job, seems I should be getting a range of about 1km (don't think I could even see my quad a kilometer away...)

So I'm looking at either the Flysky FSi6 2.4GHz 6CH or the Walkera/Devo 7CH. Any opinions on those ?

Hi mate both transmitter are good its down to personal taste really what do you like the look off, you will always get better range in height than distance due the the signal bubble from the antenna it will bounce up from the ground

ahh that makes sense. I quite like doing horizontal runs as practice - fly it away from me as far as I can, then attempt to bank it round (well, wobble it round) and fly it back, and repeat, but there is a lot of ground vegetation/hill where I'm doing it so I guess that's affecting the reception.
