Hi all, just thought I would Introduce myself, I'm Kevin from the U.K, I've just purchased my first Quadcopter, Its just a cheap Syma x5sw-1, It only cost me £45 online and it has a 2mp camera with FPV via Wifi. I plan to upgrade to a better Quad once I have gained some experience, any tips or guidance would be very welcomed and appreciated,

Good idea on the learning to fly before jumping into the deep waters!

Everyone here is really friendly and most love to help others without bad or terrible remarks. One of the reasons I like it here so much.

Hi Kevin welcome to the best hobby your ever have , just take your time to master the quad tail in /nose in/ sideways right /left , once you can do this its time to move up to a hobby grade quad

I would say fly that syma untill it gets boring or, it just becomes second nature to fly it with ease of control in most any situation.

I shouldnt say boring as, flying is always fun but, you get the idea.

The x5 is a wonderful starter quad but its hardly considered a sport flyer like most any hobby grade quad can be with much more powerful motors and batteries.

I for one enjoy flying these "toy" quads for what they are worth and havent felt the need to move up just yet.

Im finding the smaller more sporty toy quads a bit more of a handful to control which i feel is teaching me even more flight skills.

I have alot to learn about programming flight control boards and radios so my experience isnt so much a frustrating one when i decide to move up...My advice is learn all you can before you jump in.

Great way to get into the hobby. If you learn on a cheaper model you are not paying out a ton of money for the inevitable crashes that come with learning to fly. A am affraid to say that once you start flying (especially FPV) there is no going back. You are doomed to become one of us with the terminal illness (or plague?) that comes with the hobby.

Well I took it out for the first flight today, I must say I'm very Impressed by It considering it costs less than a night out, It was very windy today so that cused me a a few issues, I had to drop altitude and then push full forward on the yaw stick, I was flying for a good 25 minutes (extra batteries) and by the last five minutes I was really starting to get the hang of it.

Well I took it out for the first flight today, I must say I'm very Impressed by It considering it costs less than a night out, It was very windy today so that cused me a a few issues, I had to drop altitude and then push full forward on the yaw stick, I was flying for a good 25 minutes (extra batteries) and by the last five minutes I was really starting to get the hang of it.

Hahaha, sounds great, it usually clicks pretty fast when you finally get orientation down.

Well I decided to go and have a training session today, the wind was a bit stronger than yesterday, It was ok at low altitude but once higher (say about 50 m) In came a huge gust of wind and took my quad away, I seen it drop from the sky like a brick, I went searching for it in shrubs,nettles and god only know what else, nothing couldnt find it anywhere, I didn't think it had gone as far as the houses but thought I'd knock a few doors and ask, to my relief the last house I knock had it in his hand, he was an older gent, he said he didn't have a clue what it was and asked me to show it him working, I couldn't refuse but kept it low and well within my sight, It survived unscathed on this occasion, I also did the transmitter mod and It definitely works.

Hahahaha, that is lucky hahaha. The winds are a lot stronger up high, so you may want to keep that in mind hahaha. Any crash you survive is a good crash!
