New Build is it worth it????

Hi all complete newbie dad here???
I brought my son 2-3 yeas ago the carbon version of the Quantum neon 250 drone and so far I've managed to install the motors and blades and that's all. Time (years) has passed on and its been sat in a corner doing nothing recently my son has said "dad can we get the drone going so I can fly it, he is now aged 12 and I know it will be a good project to do.
But my question is this is it worth spending the money this kit and radio gear requires to get it flying or are there better kits out there that will be cheaper to get flying, I have looked at other kits and don't want a drone that is up and down for photography he loves watching the drone racing so a faster racing drone I think will be wanted but not at a huge cost eventually a FBV will be great if money allows. I have the experience of building Rc equipment as I'm from the hobby of helicopter flying i.e. trex 500 and trex 250 plus 1/8 buggies that I used to race, but drones are really new to me.??

Asking for advice on the best way forward thanks.

Hi mate can you still get spares for the quad once it's built , this will be the answer to build or go newer, if you get a ready to fly FPV 250 racer you don't have to use the FPV for now , you can fly and get used to how it flies then start to do FPV , as your an ex heli flyer you won't have much of a problem flying , FPV can feel strange when you first start doing it . Have a little think on the info then start to ask questions once you know the route your going

You only need a flight controller, esc's & a pdb if the flight control doesn't have one built in, and your good to go.
I take it you have a tx/rx.
Like holtneil says, fpv kit can be added later.
You may aswell get that up for what you need.
4 x 20Amp or 30Amp esc's
Or a 4in1 esc
Omnibus F4 OSD & PDB or Similar
 
I would finish it if it was mine. Looks like it would be a nice racer and won't cost too much to complete. Totally worth it if you ask me.

I've reviewd your comments and agree that the frame I have on the neon if broken will not be able to be repaired due to the carbon frame no longer being available so i would have to repaire it with fibre glass.
I've resesrch info in the forum and YouTube and decided to order a Qav 210 frame which are dirt cheap and plenty of spares available, motors I already have the power distribution board I've ordered and looking into the 30 amp Esc and flight controller.
Sadly I fell out of love of flying about 3 years ok and stupidly sold every piece of kit i owned for my heli Inc the futaba radio gear so now I have to buy all new radio gear, but times have changed and prices have dropped so that not to bad.
 
The new transmitters are so advanced now , my mate has just got a jeti mega cash at £1999 but it has voice recognition so you can tell it to changes switches , go into recovery mode to stop a crash etc
 
I wonder what voice command puts it into recovery modeo_O lol. When your in that moment & you say the wrong one leads to another until your just swearing at the tx:mad:
