Need a new controller recommendation?

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I failed to control my Syma X11 and lost it. I was going to upgrade it with 8.5x20 mm Hubsan X4 motors and Dreamcatcher frame. Now, I only have its transmitter :/

Rather than buying a replacement controller board such as Syma X11's or Hubsan X4's, I am planning (hoping) to buy a board with return home feature (or with another relatively simple function that can help me to find my quadcopter). I am not sure whether it is possible with the weight limitations or my relatively limited budget but I assume I will lose my quadcopter again :))

Can you also recommend a compatible transmitter along with the controller??

I would really appreciate any help...
Thanks..

Thank you for your reply.

Do you mean a separate transmitter module? No, like you said Syma x11 is a toy :) Eventually, I lost it and looking for other options that can encourage me to stick with the hobby :)

Does this have a separate transmitter and what flight controller does it use? I don't know of any toy grade that have RTH, maybe Neil will.

@holtneil

Hi mate its hard with toy quads lots have every thing built in the main board , and you also need the right protocol for the transmitter , there are some toy grade quads that have return home , but if you want a simple fix at you can carry from model to model may be look into the loc8tor.com

Jackson is more clued up on toy quads so I hope he may jump in with the info you need

Thank you mate,

It is nice advise. There are some cheaper alternatives, maybe even smaller ones compared to loc8tor... I will be looking for them...

Yes there may be I do like the loc8tor as it has its own battery and is small and light, once you get one full set up you can add extra signal senders

Hi everyone,
I think I found what I am looking for...
It has Return function and very cheap... Not sure whether it can fit to dreamcatcher and accept 8.5 x 20 mm motors (it has 6x15 mm I guess) though :))

What do you think about this quad?

That is probably one of the best toy grade mini quad I have seen, but the range is kinda small. You may have a hard time controlling that. Oh, just watched, you can't really rely on headless mode as a RTH, it does not use GPS, but an electric compass. Basically you have to know where it is for it to work, and it is not always reliable. Many/most toy grade quads have headless mode.

Like you said return feature could not be so reliable as the GPS variants, but it can help. The range is not good but I am pretty sure there will be lots of mods for it in time... (it will be very popular considering the ridiculous price:) )

Haha, you'd be surprised there are a few others around this price, if I had a schematic or access to it it would not be hard to make it able to use a full range receiver, not that you would need too much longer, as you won't be able to see it too far out. A simple antenna mod would do a lot, and there probably is a guide for that transmitter, as it is popular.

Haha, that's right. It is not easy to see them even in 30 m range :)
