MjK return to home question

HI everyone,
I'm new to the GPS drone thing so its quite a change from the small drones I've been flying. I bought a
MJK 103W and have a couple flights on it. I noticed today when the battery got low enough it did land it but
it was about 40 ft. from where it lifted off. Is this normal? I don't trust myself or the drone yet where I can fly it
very far. What do you think is normal for this drone?

I think I figured it out. The drone wasn't far enough away to activate a proper RTH. It had to be at least 15 meters in height and distance from home base and it may not have been.

Hi even my Phantom 1 can be a foot out on return home mode ,the important thing is calibrate the GPS if you move location

Yah most GPS I've seen gets within a few meters of accuracy unless you have a really good lock/signal from a lot of satellites it won't be extremely accurate just get in the ballpark. For precise altitude hold believe most quads rely on some sort of locally available info like using ultrasound sensors to check altitude or barometric pressure sensors if too far for ultrasound or optical flow sensors to work, GPS alone is a sort of fuzzy location at best.

Thanks for the help guys, its a learning curve on gps drones especially trusting a controller to return it home to you if it gets a little to far or you can't tell the way its headed.

That's were DJI comes in flip to Home lock and hold the cyclic down and no matter what ways it's facing it comes back to you

garagedude your gps drone is a flying computer it knows what to do ..... a few times for different reasons I have lost control of my P3 .... It stops Scratches its Head goes up to 50 meters and Returns Home to within a few meters of Home ...... always make sure you let the drone get setup be Happy and Ready to Fly and then you are OFF!................ I am 62 Disabled Fly with One Hand ... I Fly a Phantom 3 Standard ... I might not be the Greatest Pilot ... That Ever Was and Ever Will Be ...... But GPS and Alt Hold and Return to Home are Your Best Friends ............ I Can Fly
