MI drone

I have recently purchased an M I Drone but am having trouble tethering it. I want to use my tablet (Samsung) and not a phone _ is it that I can't use a tablet, or is it that the tablet needs updating or any other suggestions - I am going round in circles. Thanks

Here's my opinion on this, though I may be all wet. Your tablet doesn't work like a cell phone because it does not have superheterodyne transmitter (TX)/receiver (RX) circuitry. Most tablets work in WiFi only. That is a digital service of very short range and is not a 'telephone'. Don't bring up using Skype because that is not a telephone really it is a digital service that runs on your computer and/or tablet. I guess you could use it if you had special conversion software on the tablet with an extremely powerful WiFi service available. You can look around more on Google and perhaps some of the other guys on this forum may be more 'educated' on it, but, in my opinion, you can't use a tablet for what you want to do. At least, that's my understanding. Of course, I have as yet to get my quad out of the trees, too.

By the way... why do you refer to "Tethering it..."? Don't you mean "Pairing", Binding or Syncing it?

Can you be more specific as to what you're struggling with, I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A linked to a DJI Spark and it works perfectly

I think it can be used with a tablet but will look into it further when in the UK in June and I call it tethering because that is what MI

Because MI call it tethering in the instruction manual, this is my fourth drone and I too have had few tree encounters. Will enquire in the UK next month when I go back as to tablet use. Thanks for your reply.

The programme will control the camera but won't link to the drone functions, interesting that you use a tablet, will get advice in the UK and purchae a new model and take your advice -thanks

& I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A linked to an Autel X-Star and it works perfectly.
I suggest you try using a different USB cable. They are not all the same.

I'm not familiar with the functions of the MI programme, but in general they don't connect automatically, you have to open up the wifi settings in your device where you will see your MI listed and can connect.

Yes I use a USB cable - the control for the camera works but that is all.
Just noticed this, is this a supplied cable? On my DJI, I have to connect my controller to my Tab with an OTG cable. Regular cable will not transfer the data correctly

With all this dialog, there does not seem to be a conclusive idea as to what to do and what will work. Sounds to me that if you have to spend extra cash to make it work, the cheaper and more effective way is to use you smart cell phone. Then again, the Wright Brothers weren't exactly sure that the damned Kittyhawk would even fly. Just saying...

They would have known had they just read the damn manual....

Who reads the manual anyway? It's usually written by a Chinese guy that probably had one year of English in their form of Grade School. I don't think Orville and Wilbur had a manual anyways. They probably wrote it later after confirming that the Kittyhawk could fly further than 100 feet.
