LYZ L900 Pro Question

Hi, I am new to the Forum and also to drone flying and am looking for some help or advice.
I have just received a L900 Pro as a present, and have successfully flown it with the controller However to use the camera I have to use the RX Drone App, yesterday I had some difficulty linking my phone and the drone, but managed to get the camera working in FPV mode and flying with the controller.
Today the phone and drone connected no trouble, only now I could only fly controlling with the phone app the controller would no longer operate the drone.
Control by the App is coarse compared to the controller, there is a delay between control input and drone action, resulting in running into a tree.
Does anyone have experience with this App & drone and is there a way to control the camera with the App and fly the drone with the controller?

Any help would be appreciated, I live in Australia by the way.

RE: Today the phone and drone connected no trouble, only now I could only fly controlling with the phone app the controller would no longer operate the drone.

App to drone connection is strictly between your phone and the drone. That's one procedure.
"Binding" the drone and the controller is a different procedure.
Getting one of the above 2 procedures done does not mean both are done.
In other words, connecting successfully the drone with the app does not mean you have also connected the drone with the controller.
You need to do both separately.
I do not own a L900n Pro, so I don't know what steps need to be taken to bind your controller with the phone. Refer to your user manual for that.

Also after you have connected the drone with the app, open the app. Look at the screen at the phone, there should be an icon representing a controller. Make sure that icon is NOT activated.

Nor sure I am of any help, but that's the best I can think of with the info you provided.

Thanks for your reply and advice, solved part of the problem - after I deactivated the controller Icon that gave me control by the Controller, the next problem was at a distance of about 20 meters and a height of about 8 meters the wi/fi link between the phone and the drone dropped out, and the drone would no longer respond to the controller, I had to disconnect the wi/fi and close the App to gain control, even then to get it to descend I had to use the right joystick in the move right position to get it descending then about halfway down the controls returned to normal.

Another glitch I found was when flying with the phone engaged I could take photos but when I tried to record video I got an error message " save loop failed" so I imagine for some reason it was unable to save the video to the phone.

I don't know how much of the problem may be from the app, it has nothing but bad reviews on Play Store, apparently earlier versions of the drone used "Hfun Fly" & "HfunPro" apps but these apparently no longer work with this drone, is anyone aware of another App that may perform better with this drone?

Regards using the Manual, the drone manual is good regarding setup and flying but the only reference to the app is a Q code to download it and instructions on how to clip the phone to the controller, and the app instruction sheet tells you how to connect the phone to the drone wi/fi and connect to the app and press "Play" with a couple of illustration's showing what the various symbols do.

In general I am impressed with the performance of the drone, for what is virtually a toy, it flies well and holds position in a hover in a fairly brisk breeze, however I am surrounded by trees and need FPV as it is hard to judge distance in visual flight after about 20 meters distance.

If anyone has any thoughts on the items I have mentioned I would be interested to hear then as I am completely new to drones.

I did the google seasrch and the only other app mentioned is RX Drone app.
However, the feedback of that app is not good. Not sure if it will help you. You can give it a try.

RE : at a distance of about 20 meters and a height of about 8 meters the wi/fi link between the phone and the drone dropped out, and the drone would no longer respond to the controller
I don't understand that.
No Wifi is needed to connect the controller with the drone.
Lost of wifi connection between the phone and the drone has no effect on the controller's connection with the drone.
I have lots of GPS drones and sometimes I just didn't bother to turn on the app. I just flew it without using the phone. Just simply flying " line of sight". Never a problem.
quote " Drone controllers work by transferring radio signals to the drone, providing instructions on what you want the drone to do hence, no wifi network is necessary when controlling the drone using a remote controller." end quote.

Maybe, just maybe, the RX Drone app will solve the issue.

I have no answer to your taking video problem.

I should have been clearer, I mentioned in my initial post that I was using RX Drone, but did not make that clear ii my later post. further research indicates that not being able to capture video is rather common with RX Drone, the reason I was inquiring about other possible apps.

As to the reason for loss of control, I can only think that a glitch in the app communication took control of the drone away from the controller until I closed the app, just as well the drone holds position well in a hover as when I could not get a response at first from the controller I was thinking I would have to wait for the battery to drain before I could recover the drone.

Well as they say you learn more from your mistakes so I think I'm on a good learning curve, just a case of "keep flying and trying".

Thanks for your interest and comments, it all helps understand how things work - or don't!

Problem solved, after several unsuccessful flights I decided to uninstall & reinstall the RX Drone app, I had only downloaded it 5 days previously but when I went to the site there was an update, so I installed that instead and it now works great, I can fly with good control, take photos and video and all other actions I have tried so far work.

I am impressed by how well it performs for what is a toy drone, it has good stable flight and stable hover even in a fair breeze, photo & video quality is nor outstanding but adequate for the price range. Why do they oversell the capabilities of the cameras, 40 Mp photos and 8K video - just tell it as it is?

Thanks David for your helpful advice and comments they helped clarify my thinking as to causes and cures.

Max, max, max, I feel you are the only other person with an RX drone. I've had mine 2 months, flown it once. There is absolutely nothing about RX online anywhere. I'm becoming less frustrated having just found your posts. May i add a couple things?

First flight easier than I expected. ( I do wish I had gotten an SD one though.) Second time does everything it's meant too through the RX app. However pressing record or camera, on the app screen and the RC/SC (incidentally the camera icon was not lit in the little RC screen) led to a bubble saying "open live preview." I have scoured the internet for hours and hours and your post is the closest I've come too anything relevant. So I tried uninstalling but it said I have this app on all my devices and doesn't seem to uninstall. I think I've found the Bermuda triangle of the internet and I'm in it. I just want to know how to do that but in seems the one out of a gazillion things that's not on the web. There is also no support even though it advertises 24hr tech support. I ended up phoning Best Buy and convincing the assistant I bought it there. He managed too find me 2 numbers associated with Jype entertainment, not one mention of a drone there. I called them both. California never called back and China...well three guesses how that went. I'm semi venting. What do you find easier, the RC or the app RC? When your camera didn't work did you adjust any settings in your phone? Do you find you have to calibrate each time you turn it on?

I even just Google lens that screenshot. Nothing at all. And I tried turning the game controller icon, bottom left, off, it won't go off. I feel I've just thrown away 300$ and I couldn't really afford it in the first place, I just love photography. Thanks if you read all this and thanks if you have insight to share. Regards Anj

I've had an l900 pro for about 2 years now. The wifi connection sucks for video transmission. I had an old wifi router sitting around so I took out the 5.8ghz antenna from the router and replaced the stock one in the drone. My connection is SOOO much better and can get to my max altitude of 200meters and about 370meters out (max says 1.2km but havnt gotten to test that yet) before I start to lose video now.

Going to find a good antenna and possible booster and see if I can get farther.

Anyone else modifying these things?

@Clark0Kent - how did you replaced the antenna on the LYZ900R board ??? I see there is soldered antenna on the ANT1 pin (close to the edge) but there is also another empty pin named ANT (close to ANT1).

Regarding loosing the video - I realized there is also tiny antenna in the camera module (didn't look into it yet). Have you tried imporving that antenna to get better video coverage distance ?

Attaching the LYZ900R board back picture I found on internet.

It's truly frustrating, especially after spending so much. I hope someone can help figure out how to fix that controller icon.
