Lipo batteries Question

Hi also new lipos need a few cycles to get to there best , fast charge will fully charge but will not balance when you do a balance charge the last part of the charge does the cell balance which is better for the battery
I would not leave a lipo fully charged for more than 2 days when the battery is charged there is a chemical reaction in the lipo cells this will degrade the battery over time this normally shows as a puffed case
 
Morning all, well I'm going to repeat the experiment once the weather here takes a turn back to the better,
I'll try to restate it in a less worded post.

I purchased a new charger that would charge at 2 amps, I charged one pack and it took less than an hour to fully charge, that pack stored for three days was almost "empty" as to speak, same type of moderate flying but only for a very short time.
When the new battery charger signaled "full charge" on that pack it had 4.3volts per cell, three days later of storage that pack only had 3.8volts per cell and they had not been used, just stored.

That same pack when charged at less than 2 amps held it's full charge for two days, 4.1 volts per cell and flew my drone for 13min contentious moderate flying.

So some how that pack had discharged itself while being stored where before it hadn't.

I will repeat this experiment today, I will charge the same pack with the same 2 amp charger and monitor the packs stored voltage thru the weekend to see at which point the pack starts to discharge without being used.

Then when or if it fully discharges I will recharge it with one of the little 1 amp chargers and repeat the store & monitor procedure.

I won't be able to reply to this post until this evening but feel free to reply, I can at least read the replies at work, I just can't post.

Just read your post Holtneil, I might not be able to fly but if I don't get the chance to fly this weekend I can plug in a 12volt light bulb to drain off the full charge, kind of like cycling a Ni Cad pack.

It will be a one time thing for this pack, I know Lipo's don't need cycling that way, but if I can't get out to fly I can at least drain off some of the full charge,,,,,,,, if it remains fully charged that is.

The new charger is supposed to balance the cells after charging.

Does the new charger do store charge , also be careful if you discharge using a bulb don't go to low on the lipo or you will damage it
 
Good morning, well, hmmmm,
I charged the battery as I said I would yesterday, and I read the instructions for the charger, guess I didn't leave the battery on the charger until the LED was a solid green color, I removed it during it's balance mode, flashing green LED, the first time,

This time I left it on there until the LED was a solid green, and the battery was at 4.2v per cell, during the day I took readings, it dropped to 4.18v per cell and has remained there for the night.

No the charger doesn't do store charge but on the up side of things I may get a chance to fly today before the storm hits so I won't have to experiment with a discharge device.

I guess it's all on me for the confusion for the battery strangeness,

Gotta love a new hobby, lot's to learn. ;)

Well, I got out to fly this morning, just a little wind & no rain, 20min flight time basic to moderate maneuvering around, battery pack is good to go, thanks guy's for your input ! :cool:

The danger of lipo battery being fully charged and not being charged is not far from Generally, the dangers occur during the charging process. Just storing it without discharging it will actually damage the battery
 
A lipo can catch on fire at any time watch the video of the guys at the drone shop the battery was just sat on his desk the next second it was on fire it was not being charged
