Hi all!

I know there are some specific questions about at least one of the models I am listing here but most were inconclusive. I'm hoping someone with experience can help me make a choice on my purchase.

I bought my son a Syma X1 for Christmas a few years back and he rarely got to touch it after that. At some point I got busy and it went in a drawer long enough for the batteries to no longer charge. (I've ordered some new ones).

Since then I saw a news article about FPV Quad racing. I started watching the videos and I was drooling all over myself immediately.

I absolutely have to get into this but money is an issue. I've got my wife convinced to forget any cutesy BS ideas she had for Christmas presents and hook me up with an entry level, under $200 toy.

I've been reading for days and had settled for the most part on the Hubsan 107d x4 FPV for about $150 plus some extra batteries and a fisheye mod.

Today I saw the UDI Lark/Falcon and started to waiver. I like the size and the controller layout a lot. I know I will practice outdoors quite a bit so I thought maybe the size would be an advantage over the mini. I've also seen some reviews on the Syma X8W. My virgin experience with Syma was great but I've seen negative reviews on this quad.

I know if I want a real FPV experience I need to spend more money but first I need to try it out on something inexpensive and prove to the wife I will actually play with this thing for more than a month. (Toy ADD). I want my first, cheap FPV to be decent enough to fly solely with the screen. I know the quality won't be too fantastic on the toy grade but I'd like to know which one of the three I listed has the least lag and the best clarity.

Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Thanks!

I would recomend the Syma X5C-1 over the X8W I have both and the X8W has been a problem with faulty controls, the X5C-1 has been great though.

The syma X8C is not an FPV model but it is among the most powerful to carry "real" FPV equipment surpassing any of the toy offerings.

The X8W is fpv and uses wifi as a signal but has its problems as well.

You have models where you get the built in monitor on the transmitter such as the smaller hubsan D but, In my opinion the hubsan is very over priced for the quality you receive and i would look into the SYMA X5C-1 as a starter quad and get the optional fpv add on kit...should run around $100.00 complete

Buying the X8C can allow you better quality fpv add ons but no monitor is included and they can be pricey bringing you well over the 200 mark.

This is what I would buy if I was new to the game. Pretty much the real deal.

You can learn to fly and add FPV gear later. You will also have a very slick 9ch radio (the manual has a dizzying amount of features, tweaks and options) that will be able to be used with your next builds. Be a long time before you outgrow it.

And S Bus (futaba style) RXs are priced right.

This is pretty sweet too.

That first link looks like a great deal. How much would I spend later on FPV gear roughly?

The second two links hurt my head. I'm a total noob at this. No idea what those two parts would do for me. Time for some googling.
