Is the Syma X5C-1 the best?

Hi guys!

I'm new here! I just found this forum a few days ago! I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I have been flying a RC stuff on and off for a few years. I recently was flying my drone the JJRC H22 and I love it!

I am now looking on buying a bigger drone that has a camera. I have done a lot of research and I have decided that the Syma X5C-1 is the best for me. I'm on a budget so I don't want to spend more then $40. I think the camera quality is good enough, and I can upgrade later. I also want a drone that is bigger then 10" across.

Do you guys think this is a good choice? Is there a better drone I can get with my budget?

xHello, IMO the X5C1 quad is the very best inexpensive beginner's quad. In fact I love them so much that I always keep at least one up and flying despite the fact I have other somewhat more sophisticated quads. It flies well in moderate wind 2-5 and with a head wind I have no problem with a little higher wind speeds. It's also a really rugged quad that will take a pretty nasty crash and go right back flying. The range is very decent though when beginning can be really easy to exceed the range and only watch it fly away. I lost one of my first X5C's like this. There are some modifications that can be made to the controller antenna that will extend the range some what. YouTube videos are available for details on this. I have discovered that the controller for my Syma X-8 works great with the X-5C1 and really extends the range. I love using my X5C1 For sunrise and sunset videos then use SnipIt software to create individual pictures. It will also flies great replacing the stock camera with a Mobius Action Camera. The added weight is not a problem. Attached picture is with the stock camera of sunset with flying sandhill cranes. Parts for the X5 are cheap and repairs easy to make such as replacing a motor or props which is really all I have ever had to do. There are lots of YouTube videos on both flying and repairing the X5C1. Make sure you purchase an X5C1 and not the X5C. It is an upgrade that I believe has better range. I have found that mounting red props on the rear motors helps me visually determine the heading at higher altitude. Hope this helps.

I agree. I have multiple quads from Syma to DJI, and I still love flying the X5. It's a great learning quad, very durable, and fun to fly. The stock camera isn't great, but an 808 or the above Mobius cam would solve that part well enough. For fun flying, you can strip off the landing gear and camera and it's much more agile. Also consider changing the props to the X5HC props. They are perfectly compatible and perform noticeably better.

I have never had a problem with the added weight of the Mobius and never needed to change a motor after hours of accumulated flight time with the X5C1.

It's significantly heavier than the stock camera. That said, I think the X5 would lift and carry it without any issues. It would be undoubtedly much slower and less responsive, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're using it as a 'camera bird'. Myself, I'd opt for the 808 camera. However, it appears at least one user is flying it with a Mobius and getting good results.
 
I need to make a correction to my post about the Mobius Camera. My Camera is NOT A MOBIUS, it is the 808 #16 Wide Camera. I have both the standard lens and wide angle models. I purchased them from an Ebay Seller that goes by the name "Mobius" and assumed incorrectly they were Mobius Cameras. I do apologize. I totally agree that the Mobius is quite heavy for the X5C1 and can see how it could put lots of wear and tear on motors. The wide angle model does capture the prop and a portion of the motor housings where the standard models lens does not.
