Interesting Drone...on sale at WOOT...EHANG GVRS2 Ghostdrone 2.0 VR iOS & Android Models

Interesting, I did not notice that.

I guess by definition they can't be called a drone since they are piloted. They will have to acquire their own bad press.

Oops wait! Your video did not appear until after my premature response.?????? Duh is me.

So....drone it is. Or maybe not even a drone, since it is autonomous.

Amazing.

I'm no aerospace engineer, but I've always seen people ask why quadrotors weren't used on manned copters and the conclusion seems to typically be that one rotor makes more sense at that scale. If manned quads take off, the skies would look pretty cool! It could be safer too. A couple years ago, I saw an article about some institution creating an algorithm that lets a RC quad come down softly as long as it has even one good motor.

hmm with only one good motor I would think each rotor would have to operate like a one rotor chopper. Ability to apply thrust in 360 degrees.

Otherwise, just straight up and down thrust is not going to cut it. Unless there are some other flight surfaces involved. But then again what do I know.......they never cease to amaze me.

The biggest reason helicopters took off and multi rotors didn't was efficiency. One blade = less fuel = more range and cheaper to repair.

Still that way.

But...if you go electric and range is not an issue, ie, local commute, then there may be a market. A small one.
The advantages of a multi rotor is lifting capacity and better control/stability. Could use smaller motors on a smaller craft and it could be about the same price as your average car.

However...toss a few thousand of the vermin in the air and big brother will drop the hammer faster than a quad hits the ground after loosing a motor. That is not even considering the very first time one drops out of the air over a shopping mall and kills little billy sitting on a sidewalk eating ice cream. In the U.S.A. if it flies it WILL be regulated. Now add on licencing fees, registration, insurance, maintenance periodicals, inspections and certifications, now your cheap local four bladed grocery getter is on par with a full fledged helicopter price wise without the range or efficiency.

A curiosity. All it will ever be outside of unmanned uses. Hope you guys in other countries go farther with them than it ever will here.
