how was your first quad copter flight?

i actually just recently got my x5c-1.... my first flight was in my bedroom because i did not want to embarrass myself outside..., i crashed about 50 times on the ceiling and the walls and what used to be a table lamp... luckily i had prop guards on but i almost didnt put them on!!

It took me a week before I could go through a battery without crashing - and that was just learning how to hover. I still crash a ton, but at least it's while trying to learn manoeuvers.

ya one thing that really bothers me is i get real shaky with the up and down and then i start going up and down really crazy like and lose control and crash :( any tips for that?

The first time I flew my quad I was leary about the controls. I had a dual rotor helicopter that seemed to find every tree in my yard. I found my quad more stable but still had a problem with keeping it in hover. The copter would never hover, it just moved all the time and its controls were similar to the quad's controls. The quad is getting easier. Now, I just need a bigger space to fly it in, with less trees. It found all the trees the copter marked. Practice, practice, practice, makes you more confident and better able to "feel" the controls rather than moving your eyes to make sure your moving the right control. I might learn sooner than later hopefully.

Really no idea what I was doing which is pretty scary when you think about it. Read some primers online and started doing simple out and backs and trying to land on a marked spot. That helped, but it really takes LOTS of discipline and practice. And more practice.

yeah, at first i was like "man i should have got a phantom" - but now im glad i decided to learn on a x5c first! and with all the stabalizers on the phantom they say if u can get good on an x5c u can BE AWESOME on a phantom :D

thinking in 1 hour it will be 7pm and my battery should be charged...should i go for a low altitude night flight in the park which i think has street lights? :D

here's a tip that really helps me, instead of worrying too much about right/left - just rotate it the direction u want to go and tilt forward to move forward, like a helicopter lol! i seem to get in more trouble when i worry about moving left and right.

i got a little gutsy and went up as high as i could, almost lost my drone :( im back and safe and teh battery is charging now :D

i love this x5c cus the led lights make it awesome to fly at night, also i had some people tell me they thought it was a ufo lol!

haha - first flights are hard ! Think my first flight was completely sideways into the ground, second one went way too high and landed on the roof, had to climb up to get it, third one straight into a tree breaking all my remaining props.

It does get easier though - probably one of the best starting exercises is to simply try and hold it in a nose-out hover for a whole battery pack, don't worry about driving around, just get the altitude stability nailed.

Mind you, i've been flying line-of-sight for about 2 years now, tried my first fpv flight just the other day, and that was a disaster too ! - http://quadcopterforum.com/threads/first-fpv-flight-fail.7974/

nice lol! on the simulator programs i tried i seem to do better FPV, but in real world i have been enjoying LOS a lot! at first i was eager to get a phantom but tbh my x5c goes more high than i can C (get it?) and its more than fast enough for me, so the only reason i would upgrade to the phantom is for nice camera and fpv and range and stuff - but for now my x5c is more than enough fun i think and also im going to get a 5 pack 700mah battery with 5 way charger, so then i will get 35 mins per 1 hour charge rather than 6 minutes per 1 hour charge...not pad for 45$+20bucks for batteries! compared to 500+ for phantom which is 25 mins of flight per charge!

my first flight outside was VERY scary...cus i was actually doing much better than indoors cus i had so much room to move around (went to a nice open field with no trees or building/etc) and then i got too comfortable and decided to see how high it could go....throttle set to max...and it just rocketed up much faster than i expected even on low rate, and then before i knew it was super high up and super far away, and i freaked out but i managed to get in the zone, then i slowly turned it 180 degrees and flew it back to me and then lowered it, and then i could breathe lol - after that experience with a 40$ drone, it makes me much less eager to get a phantom, even though phantom has RTH features and etc, but sometimes i hear they dont work out and i would hate to lose 500$ like that, though i think its cool how they got gps and stabalizers so they can hover if u leave the controller alone and seem much easier to fly, i feel after i get really comfortable with the x5c-1 to where i can fly it with my eyes closed, i'll look into a phantom!

also i think its a lot easier to fly at night cus the wind seems less windy and i hear in general barometric pressure is lot lower at night, also the LED orange and green lights for front and back are a lot easier to see which i feel helped me immensly! basically i just saw those 4 lights the whole time lol!

was at the park last night flying and a couple came up and said they thought it was a UFO lol, just glad they didnt think i was anything else considering my brown skin (parents are from india) and flying a drone in the middle of the night at the park alone... lol

i seriously cant wait for the 5pack battery to come...this single 500mah battery is literally going to drive me insane!!!!
