How to choose a Pixhawk?

I have been led to think that the Pixhawk is the direction I want to go for my 450mm+ builds. I have seen some mixed reviews on Pixhawks, but not sure which ones are trustworthy to buy. Can anyone give some insight on this flight controller?

I see many different types & brands selling a "Pixhawk".... here is a few to list.

Pixhawk 2.1 by Hex.

PX4 2.4.6 by Holybro

Pixhawk 4 developed by Holybro and the PX4 team.

I am at a loss seeing that their all multiple teams out there making the same/similiar flight controller..

You should really do some research on the Eagle Tree Vector. Hands down the best GPS based flight controller in the $200 range, OSD system is amazing

I found this video informative.

I learned that the Pixhawk is an open source project, which is why there are multiple FCs with the name. The Pixhawk will probably still work better for aerial photography and autonomous mission flights, but I want to try out this Vector FC too. Seems like it fits my taste more, because I desire FPV and controlling the machine myself.
